How to Convert and Transfer VHS Tapes to DVD

Most of us have losts of old home video VHS tapes on which our precious memories are stored: graduation, wedding, birthday parties, baby showers, etc. While VCR is slowly disappearing from the market, to convert VHS to DVD is a good choice to keep those memories for longer time. Luckily, several options exist for the VHS to DVD conversion. But please note that the easier the operation, the less flexibility you will have.

Part 1: With Capture Card+DVD Creator

Using a capture tool is usually the least expensive way to record VHS tapes. It can capture or convert the analog video signal from VHS tapes to a digital format saved on computer, where it can be edited and enhanced. Then you can burn the final version VHS to DVD with a DVD Creator. This method also allows you to convert copy protected VHS to DVD, which the other methods can not.

Step 1: Configure capture card to your computer

There are lots of videos on YouTube show how to configure capture card to a computer. Designate a hard drive with a lot of free real estate to save the generated video files. Set the video quality as 720X480 (standard Digital Video format).

Step 2: Connect VHS player with capture card

If possible, use a S-video cable or cables with RCA connectors to connect your VHS player with the capture card. Otherwise, coaxial cable and the capture card tuner are ok.

Step 3: Start recording/converting

Start recording first, then start playing the VHS tape to make sure no video chips are missed. Keep an eye on the recording process and stop it when the tape comes to the end.

Step 4: Launch DVD Creator and start burning

Check the compatibility of your DVD player with the DVD disc and select the one works best for you.

Step 3: Position the VHS tape to the beginning and check the input signal of DVD recorder.

Step 4: Start recording

Start recording and then start playing the VHS tape. Moniter the recording process. If the space of inserted DVD disc is enough, you may add another tapes to the recording.

Step 5: Finalize the recording

Remember to finalize the recording, or the generated DVD cannot be playback on standard DVD players. You can add chapter stops to the generated DVD by finding the right spots and pressing the relevant button on your remote. When you have finished managing the content of the DVD, finalize it.

Part 3: With VHS Conversion Service

There are many specialist companies like Home Movie Depot that can provide a wide range of video conversion services, including converting VHS to DVD. The disadvantage is that if you have lots of old video tapes, the conversion service will cost you lots of money.

How to convert TS to dvd format

A TS file, here it means a transport stream video format based on MPEG-2 part One, rather than a DVD folder with Video_TS and Audio_TS in it.

TS is used in broadcast applications such as DVB and ATSC. Having the ability of multiplexing digital video and audio and synchronizing the output, TS also offers the features for error correction for transportation over unreliable media.

Put those terms aside, how to convert TS to DVD for playback on DVD players is a big problem for many DVD lovers. Because TS–the HD video format is not supported by many DVD Creators that a TS-to-MP4/AVI conversion is needed before burning TS video to DVD. Here we show you the weay to burn TS video to DVD.

Step 1: Play TS files on PC

The easiest solution is VLC player which you can find and free download from the internet. VLC player can play MPEG-2 video content and supports opening and playing TS files directly.

Note: The used disc space is shown on the disc space bar underneath the storyboard; The output quality is also up to your choice, you may select “Low video quality”, “High video quality” or “Highest video quality”. (The higher the quality, the bigger the video size.)

Part 2 : Tips about Aimersoft DVD Creator:

1.Edit TS video clips and organize a slideshow

Order: You can sort the order of the TS video files in the storyboard by drag and drop.

Add a slide: Right click mouse in the left area of the storyboard, and select “Add Slideshow”, then you can add other TS videos to this slideshow.

After the MKV files have been added, they will appear in the main interface. Display the loaded video files by double click to choose the MKV video file which you want to convert.

Convert MKV to DVD 3:Convert and burn MKV to DVD directly
If you don’t want to add any special effect, of course you can convert MKV to DVD directly.
Drag and drop MKV video files from the main interface to the storyboard below, click the video file which you want to burn and click “burn” to burn MKV to DVD directly.

For DVD disc: Click “Burn”, select “DVD” option in the “Burn to” field, specify a temp folder (used to save the generated temporary files), select your DVD drive and burning program (either built-in or your own burning application), select your TV Standard and output Aspect Ratio, and click “Start” to burn MKV to DVD disc.
For DVD file or an ISO file: Click “Burn”, select the “DVD Folder” or “ISO file” option, specify a folder to save them, and click “Start” to convert MKV to ISO file or DVD folder saved on your computer hard disk.
TV Standard: “NTSC” is 30 fps, which is used in USA, Canada and Japan; “PAL” is 25fps, which is used in Europe and Asia.
