IMDB rating: 6.90

Plot: A sudden death tied to a list from the past leads to unimaginable evil. Fresh out of law school and full of hope for the future, Renny Jacobson is stunned by his father’s sudden death—and then by the terms of the will: the elder Jacobson has left the bulk of his estate to charity. For his only son, he has left nothing more than the contents of a deposit box and interest in a company no one has heard of—the Covenant List of South Carolina, Ltd. When Renny encounters lovely Jo Johnston, meets the members of “The List,” and discovers the staggering value of his father’s mysterious bequest, his hope is resurrected. But why is Jo, to whom he is deeply attracted, so reluctant for him to claim his rightful share? Renny feels the supernatural power of the 140-year-old covenant—feels it and wants it for himself. But when his life and Jo’s begin to unravel, he is forced to face the truth about “The List.” And nothing short of a miracle will save them from its grasp.

Have you gotten results with the p90x program without following the diet plan?
I recently started the p90x exercise program. I really enjoy the DVDs especially since there is variety. However the meal plan that is included in the program I’m not too crazy about. I’ve been following the list of foods that are allowed in the program but I’m not fixing what the weekly menu is. So I was wondering if others had success with the program by following their own personal eating plan and if so did you like the results?

Thanks!

Mmm…someone wants to eat cheeseburgers and junk food but lose weight!! Can’t have the best of both worlds. My advice is to stick to a diet, or love yourself how you are.
Sophia | Feb 05, 2010

Just cut down and sweets and white foods and drink nothing but water. I think the dietary part of the p90x was to attract housewifes.

Navy Denied My Criminal Waiver for A Commission. What can I do to get through/around this?
If you have the time I would greatly appreciate it if you would read what I have to say. The situation, as I am aware of it, is that I was denied a criminal waiver due to having 7 offenses when supposedly a maximum of 3 is allowed for a criminal "moral" waiver. I am an Korean male born in the states, 24 yrs old, and both of my chart c’s, 2 of my chart b’s and my chart d offenses were when I was 15 and 16. The other 2 chart b’s were when i was 17.

1 Chart D 1- Major Misconduct-Arson (target shopping cart)
2 Chart C’s 2- Misconducts-Marijuana possession and criminal mischief
4 Chart B’s 4- Non traffic Violations-underage drinking, loitering, disorderly conduct and curfew violation

I have found no such citing yet for the navy regarding 3 offenses as a max for a waiver. I have been contemplating non stop for the past 24 hours on literally ALL possible/plausible ways to either work through or get around this particular issue. I have talked to my recruiter twice now and he is saying there is seriously nothing I can do other than pursue other branches.

I don’t know how much it means to you guys, but I truly believe I am destined for this path even though that’s not what is occurring right now. I absolutely know in my heart I have the capability to fully be the best candidate at OCS and Flight School if only I was given the opportunity. I understand the the Navy has many enlistees and officer applicants who have clean records, but I know in my heart I am a better pick than most if not all of them, and I say this with as much respect and humbleness as possible. I am in desperate need for help here and I truly believe "where there’s a will there’s a way." I honestly feel for some reason in my heart that there are specific people out there who will believe in me, look past what’s on paper, and have the power to make a difference here. As long as I can, I cannot stop as this is my dream… this is all I have ever wanted and have literally geared everything in my life towards this goal for the past 5 years.

I am a very unique person who currently accomplishing so many great feats and truly feels destined for greatness, but unfortunately I have taken a rocky and "looked down upon from society" type of approach to get to where I am. My whole life story has always been about defying the odds and adapting to overcome in order to succeed so I believe this is the case here as well.

Please guys there MUST be some "outside the box" way of tackling this issue. If only I could "prove" somehow to those who make the decisions/calls that there is significantly much more to me than that which meets the eye on paper. If I could just prove or convince that I seriously would be one of the most determined, patriotic, persistent, focused, and ambitious officer candidates they have ever seen I feel I could inspire and turn the odds in my favor. I cannot express to you all how much it means to me if you could please give me any plausible/possible advice/ideas/suggestions/tips to help support me to continue pursuit for my dream. All I want more than anything in the world is not to be a fighter pilot, but rather to have a single fair opportunity to become one because I know I will if given that chance. thanks

What you have to realize is that the Navy has beaucoups applicants for commissioning programs with ZERO criminal charges. Marijuana possesion by itself is a show stopper. Time to move on, this is NOT your destiny.

FORENSICS/SPEECH introduction?
okay, so I’m doing "Cinderela" by Roald Dahl..I’m having trouble putting at least a minute long introduction…

here is the poem:

Cinderella
by Roald Dahl

I guess you think you know this story.
You don’t. The real one’s much more gory.
The phoney one, the one you know,
Was cooked up years and years ago,
And made to sound all soft and sappy
Just to keep the children happy.

Mind you, they got the first bit right,
The bit where, in the dead of night,
The Ugly Sisters, jewels and all,
Departed for the Palace Ball,
While darling little Cinderella
Was locked up in a slimy cellar,
Where rats who wanted things to eat,
Began to nibble at her feet.

She bellowed ‘Help!’ and ‘Let me out!’
The Magic Fairy heard her shout.
Appearing in a blaze of light,
She said, ‘My dear, are you all right?’
‘All right?’ cried Cindy. ‘Can’t you see
‘I feel as rotten as can be!’

She beat her fist against the wall,
And shouted, ‘Get me to the Ball!
‘There is a Disco at the Palace!
‘The rest have gone and I am jealous!
‘I want a dress! I want a coach!
‘And earrings and a diamond brooch!
‘And silver slippers, two of those!
‘And lovely nylon panty-hose!
‘Done up like that I’ll guarantee
‘The handsome Prince will fall for me!’

The Fairy said, ‘Hang on a tick.’
She gave her wand a mighty flick
And quickly, in no time at all,
Cindy was at the Palace Ball!

It made the Ugly Sisters wince
To see her dancing with the Prince.
She held him very tight and pressed
Herself against his manly chest.
The Prince himself was turned to pulp,
All he could do was gasp and gulp.
Then midnight struck. She shouted, ‘Heck!
‘I’ve got to run to save my neck!’
The Prince cried, ‘No! Alas! Alack!’
He grabbed her dress to hold her back.
As Cindy shouted, ‘Let me go!’
The dress was ripped from head to toe.
She ran out in her underwear,
And lost one slipper on the stair.

The Prince was on it like a dart,
He pressed it to his pounding heart,
‘The girl this slipper fits,’ he cried,
‘Tomorrow morn shall be my bride!
‘I’ll visit every house in town
‘Until I’ve tracked the maiden down!’
Then rather carelessly, I fear,
He placed it on a crate of beer.

At once, one of the Ugly Sisters,
(The one whose face was blotched with blisters)
Sneaked up and grabbed the dainty shoe,
And quickly flushed it down the loo.
Then in its place she calmly put
The slipper from her own left foot.
Ah-ha, you see, the plot grows thicker,
And Cindy’s luck starts looking sicker.

Next day, the Prince went charging down
To knock on all the doors in town.
In every house, the tension grew.
Who was the owner of the shoe?
The shoe was long and very wide.
(A normal foot got lost inside.)
Also it smelled a wee bit icky.
(The owner’s feet were hot and sticky.)
Thousands of eager people came
To try it on, but all in vain.

Now came the Ugly Sisters’ go.
One tried it on. The Prince screamed, ‘No!’
But she screamed, ‘Yes! It fits! Whoopee!
‘So now you’ve got to marry me!’
The Prince went white from ear to ear.
He muttered, ‘Let me out of here.’
‘Oh no you don’t! You made a vow!
‘There’s no way you can back out now!’
‘Off with her head!’ The Prince roared back
They chopped it off with one big whack.
This pleased the Prince. He smiled and said,
‘She’s prettier without her head.’

Then up came Sister Number Two,
Who yelled, ‘Now I will try the shoe!’
‘Try this instead!’ the Prince yelled back.
He swung his trusty sword and smack –
Her head went crashing to the ground.
It bounced a bit and rolled around.
In the kitchen, peeling spuds,
Cinderella heard the thuds
Of bouncing heads upon the floor,
And poked her own head round the door.

‘What’s all the racket?’ Cindy cried.
‘Mind your own bizz,’ the Prince replied.
Poor Cindy’s heart was torn to shreds.
My Prince! she thought. He chops off heads!
How could I marry anyone
Who does that sort of thing for fun?
The Prince cried, ‘Who’s this dirty slut?
‘Off with her nut! Off with her nut!’
Just then, all in a blaze of light,
The Magic Fairy hove in sight,
Her Magic Wand went swoosh and swish!
‘Cindy!’ she cried, ‘come make a wish!
‘Wish anything and have no doubt
‘That I will make it come about!’

Cindy answered, ‘Oh kind Fairy,
‘This time I shall be more wary.
‘No more Princes, no more money.
‘I have had my taste of honey.
‘I’m wishing for a decent man.
‘They’re hard to find. D’you think you can?’

Within a minute, Cinderella
Was married to a lovely feller,
A simple jam-maker by trade,
Who sold good home-made marmalade.
Their house was filled with smiles and laughter
And they were happy ever after.

….again, I’m really having difficulties putting an introduction..and I need it ASAP..

thanks..

What it be possible for Haiti to be a self-governing territory of the United States?
Why couldn’t Haiti be a self-governing territory of the U.S.? Puerto Rico is a self-governing unincorporated territory of the United States located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, east of the Dominican Republic and west of the Virgin Islands. Since President Obama and former Presidents Bush & Clinton have made a commitment to help rescue the people of Haiti and re-build their country after the devastating earthquake which will take over 5 years, it seems to me that it would be most beneficial for Haiti to be more like Puerto Rico in their governmental infra-structure and providing human services to the desperately poor people of Haiti. That is, if the President of Haiti agrees to this arrangement.

Also, scientists are reporting that there might be another earthquake somewhere in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, or Puerto Rico that would be 7.5 on the Richter scale sometime in the future that would cause even more of a disaster than the one that just hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti. God bless everyone who is working to relieve the misery and suffering of the Haitian people during this terrible crisis.
Haiti was discovered by Christopher Columbus. The country has a history of slavery, oppression, hardship, and unstable governments. Haiti has no way of supporting its people and government, and the country has been dependent on other countries throughout its history. No one including Joseph the II can speak for what might happen to Haiti in the future. Former Presidents Clinton and Bush have offered their services and commitment to President Obama in helping the people of Haiti re-build their country which has no infra-structure at the present time. The U.S. has been sending financial aid to Haiti for a long, long time. My nephew who was a West Point graduate and a member of the Army Corp of Engineers led a unit to Haiti many years ago to dig wells for their people so they could have clean drinking water.

Because Haiti is already an Independent Country… And it is Extremely unlikely she would give up Her independence to become a Protectorate of the U.S. . It’s a matter of National Pride…

How do you deal with daily rude people in lives?
Such as the supermarket, parking lot, at work. Any rude strangers that you come across. How do you deal with them, better yet, how do you NOT deal with them? Personal experience appreciated.

When someone is having a grump attack at strangers, I tend to just smile at them. Most the time it’s grumpy old ladies who think they can treat me how they like because I’m young. (I don’t know why it’s old ladies…)
One time, I bumped into this woman in a restroom, and I apologized. She looked me up and down and rather rudely snapped at me "Why don’t you watch where you’re going?"
It was very unpleasant of her…

I don’t say anything (though it is very tempting to sometimes). They’re trying to get a reaction out of you, so if you don’t react, it just pisses them off. Although, I do give the finger to bad drivers from time to time.

so many ways to mess with rude people. sometimes I’m overly polite-the nastier they are, the nicer i am. i love to watch myself get way under their skin. most people turn red in the face. i’ve pretended to be deaf. i hate when people ask me what time it is. watches are not that expensive. i’ve pushed people into walls when trying to get around them. you know the type-pass on the right means nothing to them so i force them to my left usually knocking them into something and just keep walking while they’re screaming at me. i’ve told people that don’t use turn signals that they are broken saying you don’t look like the jerky type that just wouldn’t use it. i asked people if they are that rude to their mother. some i just ignore. the one guy i’ll never forget. i was riding the commuter train home and was trying to walk the cars to the end of the train to get off closer to my car. i said excuse me to this guy like 3 times and his come back to me was that he heard me the first time and still didn’t move. gotta say, that one left me speechless but i did literally push him out of my way and called him everything in the book.
Graciegirl-Defending the Breed | Sep 09, 2008

Avoid dealing with them.

Who are these people in the supermarket, parking lot, etc.?

You’ve given no examples at all of what you’re asking about.

Do NOT be rude back.

But in order to give you suggestions, I need to know what you’re talking about. What are these rude people doing?

You can’t control other people, so thinking you can make everyone else stop being rude is just a delusion.

smile and move on!
that’s how i do it and ever since i started i haven’t really seen many more rude peeps!

Groups urge better census count of African-Americans in 2010?
Washington (CNN) — Civil rights leaders Wednesday lobbied Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and top Census Bureau officials to press for a better count of African-Americans in the 2010 census.

The U.S. government already plans a nearly $200 million advertising campaign aimed at getting people to respond to the census, which is used to set congressional and legislative districts and allocate federal funds. But National Urban League President Marc Morial said more needs to be done to make sure underrepresented communities are included.

"My takeaway from the meeting is that the secretary listened intently and took our concerns very seriously," Morial told reporters after the meeting. But he added, "We still feel there are important, significant steps that need to be taken to ensure that there is a complete count in the 2010 census."

Benjamin Jealous, president of the NAACP, said the 2000 census undercounted African-Americans by nearly 3 percent. He said the Census Bureau needs to hire more black managers and subcontractors so "the firms that know these communities best are calling the shots."

African-Americans make up a large proportion of what census workers call "hard-to-count" groups, which also include other ethnic minorities and immigrants, children and poor people, said Corrine Yu, senior counsel and managing policy director for the Leadership Council on Civil Rights. In addition, many of those communities show a "general distrust of government" that has hindered participation, she said.

Video: Calls for census changes RELATED TOPICS
U.S. Census Bureau
Studies conducted since the 1940s show those demographics "are all likely to respond to the census quest at lower rates," Yu said.

Complicating things further this year are the lingering effects of Hurricane Katrina, which displaced hundreds of thousands of people in the Gulf Coast states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Four years after the 2005 storm, the area still has large numbers of people in temporary housing and a high rate of vacant homes, according to an August report by the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights.

The report found the Census Bureau plans to hand-deliver questionnaires in some of the hardest-hit parts of the Gulf Coast and launch an extensive ad campaign to get people in the stricken areas to take part in the count.

The avalanche of foreclosures over the past two years also is likely to make hard-to-count populations more difficult to tally as well, because many people in those groups have been forced to move, Yu said.

"We don’t know exactly how this is going to work, because this is a unique circumstance," she said. "But that kind of displacement, whether it’s natural disaster like Katrina or a man-made disaster like the foreclosure crisis, will be a new challenge for the 2010 census."

The delegation that met with Locke also included Rep. Barbara Lee, D-California, the head of the Congressional Black Caucus; and two of the most visible U.S. civil rights activists, the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, both of whom have made Democratic presidential bids.

Morial said the group also asked that prison inmates be included in counts of their hometowns, not where they are held. He said that with about 1.3 million African-Americans in prison out of a total black population of about 40 million, "What we have in the prison population issue is a built-in undercount."

Jackson said the delegation did not receive any commitment from Locke on that issue, which he said might need to be addressed by the Justice Department or Congress.

Yu said that issue was unlikely to be resolved in time for 2010, but was "an important issue for consideration for the 2020 census."

Thanks for this info. I tried to suggest in my answer to another question that we are under-represented in count. My data was not as robust as yours, so i appreciate your putting this out there.

RHH: How hip hop died, musical accompaniment by Common Sense (for that one cat, no one else look)……….?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C99iG4HoO 1c

Hip Hop started in NY for those who didn’t know. Anyway, once upon a time there lived broke black folk in the streets of NY who ain’t have shyt to do but wrong. Then in like super ni99er comes a guy named Kool DJ Herc, which we all know. Back then there was know rap music, which it seems must of us forget at times, so he brought out his equipment and rocked out with some funk and soul shyt like this, inspiration to black people music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuR-kDVMo qE

As you can tell from the song this is nothing like music today, it’s funky, fast. Back then dudes could get funky to this and dance. Mixing James Browns moves with that Wu Tang Kung Fu movie shyt gave way to B-Boys/break dancing (important fact, back then cats could dance). I’ll skip other stuff because I’m tired of writing but. Before long MC came along from all that chant yelling with DJ shyt, graffiti was big etc. None of it had an official name but soon or later the term Hip Hop was used to describe this thriving culture. Another thing to remember rap music still doesn’t exist as a genre. But after awhile of this singles get released Rappers Delight was big etc etc.

After awhile Rap is an official genre and Hip Hop plays a huge part in Rap. DJs are more important than MCs at this point keep that in mind. B-Boying and Graf don’t play a big role in Rap, but MC and DJing do and is what puts the Hip Hop in Rap. Once rap starts to progress MC start to take top over DJs and DJs start taking on producing because it, to make it short, was in their best interests. Producers worked on the beats and got paid. They could still DJ on the side or apply DJ skill to tracks but they took on producing more. As time goes on things change. It was mostly live music in the 80s being spun by DJs on Rap cuts; by live I mean funky and B-Boy friendly to an extent. But as things progress production wise things get less and less B-Boy happy happy joy party it up and become hardcore, especially with Gangsta Rap to give things a boost.

By time the early 90s roll around B-Boying and Rap don’t go hand in hand, DJing and Rap don’t go hand in hand; it’s all about the MC plus the producers somewhat too. The only element left keeping Hip Hop in Rap music is the MC with the DJing sort of turning to production. Now lets get to the dirt shall we. You might disagree here but now there was a guy named P. Diddy who had an artist by the name of Biggie Smalls. Biggie Smalls was a fierce MC. P. Diddy had business connects in the industry: Bad Boys. P. Diddy being a smart brother knows from being around the music biz that the fans want hits. Everybody actually, in the biz, knows that fans want the big singles; I’m talking the non-Hip Hop Heads obviously. Big is a real hard NY cat who wants to do his hood shyt that real raw hardcore Hip Hop MC skills shyt, but he also knows that his chance is Puffy and Puffy wants the singles for the mainstream. So big compromises and does the singles but also does the hood shyt. Juice, One More Chance Remix. etc, the rest hood shyt.

Fast forward now he starts doing his second shyt beef is big but I’m talking Hip Hop so I’ll leave the beef out. Puffy still gets Big on the single shyt because he knows that is what the mainstream feeds on. Hypnotize, Mo Money Mo Problems etc. Now I can’t say that Puffy is the only one out there on this shyt, but I’m saying he was the main influence. Ma$e, The LOX, all did those songs that had you like why are these talented cats doing these pu$$y a** tracks. To get back on topic a guy by the name of Jay-Z is creeping on the come up and he is just like Puffy same mind set. He is around Biggie Smalls does a track with him, peeps his style and what is appealing about him to the mainstream and steals it. Only thing is that he goes way farther with it. Big dies and around this time everyone is on that single mainstream shyt because that what appeals to fans.

Now Jay-Z is the only cat left to be the head of NY and he is on it the hardest. Down hill. Rappers follow the Jay-Z mainstream footsteps and are on the fake shyt instead of that real hardcore street shyt. Bingo. 2000s come and MCs are still alive no doubt even with the hot single funny shyt wearing ice rocking nonsense that Puffy and Jay are set on. But big bad boy internet is now bigger than ever, and illegal downloads come into play.

By the mid-2000s it gets so bad that albums sells are down. Now the make big single the rest hood tracks don’t attract labels as well. It’s all singles and because that can make the quick cash for ya. Mainstream feeds off singles and since record sells are 0 that is what label want. Who are the label heads that can really help keep things alive. Jay-Z, Puffy are good opinions. What do they do? Not support good artist that’s for sure.

Now we are at the point were singles are cool for mainstream and record labels. What is hot in mainstream? drugs money sex a
