Did Obama learned from Bush mistakes? Bush waited several years before he set a withdrawal date from Iraq.?
In Iraq, Bush set a date for withdrawal, It took over 4000 Americans deaths and 18000 seriously wounded before he set the dates. He was forced by Americans public opinions and republican Congressional loses. Obama is being forced to continue that Bush war but he did in his first year what took Bush several years to do. Goals, benchmarks and exit strategy.
Obama is showing an exceptional rational leadership.
By stabilizing clear goals and setting benchmarks to measure progress.
Goals = the end toward which effort is directed.
Bench mark = a point of reference from which measurements may be made
All these after careful deliberation and consultation. I wish we did not invaded Afghanistan, now the best thing to do is bring that war to a successful conclusion. I negotiated peace with the Taliban may be the best solution. We were friends with the Taliban during the Regan years.

Obama vowed to continue the war in Afghanistan…he’s not being forced.
You don’t give the enemy your playbook before stepping onto the battlefield. The winning strategy for them now that they know 30,000 troops are on their way for 1.5 years — hide out in Iran/Syria/Pakistan for that time. Wait for the troops to withdraw and then go back home to Afghanistan and pick up where they left off.

Just because Obama set a withdrawal date does not mean it will happen. It is all up to the people of Afghanistan how soon the coalition will leave their country, but with all the billions of dollars/euros going there because of the coalition troops the Afghans may just delay the withdrawal time. The same is happening in Iraq. People do not even see the huge financial windfall for both Iraq and Afghanistan with Western troops being based in their country.

You missed the big difference – Bush set the withdrawal date based on the advice of the generals after it became obvious that the war was won.
Obama ignored the advice of the generals when he set his withdrawal date.
