Cat disease that has an odor to it?? HELP!!?
Please help — I want to do some research tonight, vet is closed for me to call and ask.

Basically a random cat showed up on my property a few months ago, been feeding it. I let my dogs outside (who are fully vetted and UTD on shots) and they greet the cat and the cat loves them. Well my brother comes to visit who volunteered at an animal shelter over the summer and said the cat is sick, it has "that smell." He cant remember what the disease was that the cats had that had this odor, but he said he will never forget this odor and he can smell it on the cat.

I am sick over this! My dogs have been around this cat for a couple months. Yes its sad if the cat is sick, but it is not mine and I am worried about my dogs of 5+ years!

Only thing I noticed about the cat is it is voraciously hungry but NO WORMS because i have checked its stools multiple times. I have a cat box outside for it on my porch. NO WORMS. but it is constantly hungry and eats like there is no tomorrow, even when its been fed earlier that day.

The only ‘disease’ smell associated with a cat that is positively a danger sign is if the cat smells like ammonia. That means the kidney function is shutting down (you’d get the same smell from a dog with the same problem).

If the cat smells like a standard unwashed dog, this is a very common smell to outdoor cats. They don’t have the luxury of taking a long time bathing themselves, so they acquire that odor. Bring them indoors and don’t give them a bath–within 3 weeks they’ll smell nice like indoor cats, guaranteed.

If the cat is hafl starved, they always appreciate food. With no worms (have a vet do a fecal test on a sample, to be sure), it’s just undernourishment. Most strays have a hard time finding reliable food and do eat like there’s no tomorrow.

You can NOT diagnose a cat with worms by looking at the stool. The only time worms are expelled are in highly infested cases (and sometimes vomited).

There are different ‘diseases’ that can make our pets smell; anything from dental disease to kidney failure.

Only a vet can diagnose and treat.

Not all worms show up in cat poop. Tapeworms are difficult to detect and if a cat has them, the cat will be hungry all the time. That smell you are talking about is not a good smell. My cats all had it before they passed away. If your dogs don’t seem sick, I wouldn’t worry too much about them. They can’t get worms from the cat.

One disease that causes an odor is diabetes. Diabetic cats have an "acetone" smell to their breath. Acetone smells like nail polish remover. Diabetic cats drink excessive amounts of water, but continue to lose weight.

Smell the cat’s breath. If it smells "sweet", take "it" to a vet for tests. If it’s not your cat, take it to a "no-kill" shelter and surrender it. They’ll be able to treat whatever the disease is that the cat has…..and hopefully find "it" a new home. Once a diagnosis is made, you’ll know whether, or not, to worry about your dogs………..

I really wish people would give us the "gender" of the animal that they ask questions about. It would make it much easier to answer them……..( .Sorry about that…….just a little "frustration" on my part! )

I heard that about Parvo with dogs, but cat’s don’t get parvo.

Also, few worms (tapeworms and roundworms being the most notable) can be seen in poop, most are microscopic (whipworm, hookworm) and not all intestinal parasites are worms, some are single-celled organisms (giardia, coccidia, etc.)

Generally cats that have an infection will emit a bad smell, but it isn’t characteristic of any one disease.

No one meets "anyone" when you put TONS of pressure on yourself. Why not just take it easy and take on a new attitude, "when it happens, it will happen." You can always post an ad on Craigslist to meet someone for free, or there are actually other free ways, like, going to the grocery, the library, places where you can kinda force yourself to "bump" into other women. Be patient.

Can someone help me decide between Mitusbishi Outlander and Toyota Rav4?
I like Rav4, it’s very nice, but Outlanders are larger and also stylish, and have a V6 engine. Which do you think is better, and why? Thanks for taking the time to answer.

While there are other cars in this class that are worth considering, I would go with the Outlander. It has as you point out, a larger engine and more room.

Outlanders are nice, and they are more powerful, have more interior room, are more stylish, and can literally, out everything like the commercials say so. The 3rd row seating makes seven people seat comfortably in such a compact SUV. With stll a few more feet of cargo space in the back. The Outlander is the best choice in compact SUV’s of today. I thought Mitsubishi was doomed when the Outlander came back for another year, but they really proved me wrong this time. I said there was nothing else they could do to make it better. So they threw it out, started fresh, and made it the best.

I would say the Toyota, and here is why:

-more reliable
-better resale
-better quality
-better desing
-better overall reputation

You can get a Rav4 w/ a V6, but it will cost more of course. I would also look at the CR-V, and if you simply must have a V6 at a certain price point, look at the Hyundai Sante Fe before the Mitsubishi. While Mitsubishi is finally putting out a competitive product, they are only a few bad models from dropping out of the US market.

I don’t believe that we have ever had a perfect man as President. There is no such man.

I remeber reading this book a few years ago and loved the idea of having a daemon. We are very similar to animals, and each person can probably identify more with a particular species. For me, my daemon would have to be a jaguar or tiger. Cats are for the most part independant and solitary creatures. I’m most intruged by their stoic disposition and apathy, yet they show true love and protection for their young, big cats rpresent ultimate strength in the animal kingdom. I dont think Im neccessarily similar to these animals, but they embody the characteristics I admire. They are strong, loving, callous, protective and beautiful. A tiger always gets respect.

In the Middle Ages, there were some philosophers who posited that each human being corresponds to one animal: like a person is acting and looking like a rat, etc. It was a very serious philosophy.
And I believe it to some extent that lately I had to deal with an avatar who made me think he/she was a hyena, with sarcasm, stupidity and cruelty. Another one makes me think of a beast. Some make me think of gentle animals. I see myself as a cat. And as for the daemon, I never heard it was an animal.

Hmm .. When you are all alone and new in some place with no immediate friends .. I guess you get a lot lonlier and dont want to hang out much alone either ..

there is only one thing to do .. make friends!!! ..

Well .. it really is easier said than done I guess .. okie here are a few personal tips that may work out for you ..

1) Choose an activity you love doing .. (I picked up table-tennis .. ) .. join a club or something .. The benefits are double that you get to enjoy the sport or activity .. and get to make friends ..

2) Learn a new language .. Language classes are pretty fun .. they are not totally classroom type where its only serious studies .. you get to make friends .. meet different kinds of people .. It really is a subtle laid-back experience I loved doing during my early school days .. (I learnt german BTW)

3) Do stuff that you really love doing .. like baking yourself a cake .. pamper yourself a bit now and then .. buy a new watch or outfit or something ..

4) Go outdoors .. hang about .. Its a new place you are in .. I know it sucks being alone .. but seeing places is worth much more than doing nothing .. and in time you really will feel better that you are doing something nice ..

5) Just ask people out (not like a date .. just hanging about) whom you interact with .. might sound a bit wierd .. hey thats how you start and get to make friends ..

You are just 23 (not that am old!!) and have lots to see and do in life .. just make it a point not to sulk at home .. and do something atleast a day in your weekend ..

The secret of happiness is enjoying what life has to offer to you .. and you just gotta be bold enough to reach out and take it ..
