Plot: When Bond investigates mysterious activities in the world diamond market, he discovers that the evil Ernst Blofeld (Charles Gray) is stockpiling the precious gems to use in a deadly laser satellite capable of destroying massive targets on land, sea and air. Bond, with the help of beautiful smuggler Tiffany Case (Jill St. John), sets out to stop the madman, but first he must grapple with a host of enemies. He confronts offbeat assassins Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd, as well as Bambi and Thumper–two scantily-clad beauties who are more than a match for Bond in hand-to-hand combat! Finally, there’s the reclusive billionaire Willard Whyte (Jimmy Dean), who may just hold a vital clue to Blofeld’s whereabouts.

The lead female character in the movie Diamonds Are Forever is standing at the edge of an offshore oil rig. As she fires a gun, she is driven back over the edge and into the sea. Suppose the mass of a bullet is 0.007 kg, and its velocity is +738 m/s. Her mass (including the gun) is 60 kg.
(a) What recoil velocity does she acquire in response to a single shot from a stationary position, assuming that no external force keeps her in place?

It’s easy; a momentum issue. Mass x velocity = mass x velocity. Rather simplified though, because in the first case the burning gases aren’t considered and they’re a major part of recoil. Like a jet exhaust shoving you back.
