Movie Downloads

If you're looking for a great website for movie downloads and if budget matters, then The Internet Archive is a place to bookmark in your browser's favorites. You'll find an enormous collection of movies for download and online viewing. Best of all the price of the service is absolutely free.

The Internet Archive is not for profit. Under the About Us portion on the web site, here's what you'll find:

“The Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library, with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format. Founded in 1996 and located in the Presidio of San Francisco, the Archive has been receiving data donations from Alexa Internet and others. In late 1999, the organization started to grow to include more well-rounded collections. Now the Internet Archive includes texts, audio, moving images, and software as well as archived web pages in our collections. “

I've been visiting the Internet Archive for months now and I never fail to find interesting films. In the course of my exploration, I've downloaded more than a dozen movies and burned them to DVD. Some of the more popular titles include:

Horror Express – A great chiller from the 1970's starring British film icons Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. This film is regularly sold on DVD in stores. Because it's public domain, you can find it at the Internet Archive and either view it online or save the movie file for later or to burn to DVD.

Dementia 13 – This is Francis Ford Coppola's first feature film. Despite it being a first effort, the respected Oscar winning director's talented hand is strongly felt. Shot in black & white in Ireland on a spooky country estate, the movie depicts a greedy woman's desire for wealth and an ax murderer who complicates things for all involved.

His Girl Friday - Cary Grant & Rosalind Russel star in a Howard Hawks comedy known for snappy dialogue and engaging characters. The depiction of the media in this little gem still stands up today and Cary Grant is at his comic and romantic best here.

You'll find so many great dramas, comedies, thrillers, westerns and more. There's even a huge collection of cartoons and animated subjects from the golden age of animation and beyond. Put simply, once you start browsing the Internet Archive, it will take you many hours or even days to sift through all the treasures.
