Game hunting was introduced in Lake Mburo national park way back. However, for some reason this activity was banned and is only being reintroduced of late. The Game hunting ban is to be lifted in an endeavor to boost the Tourism proceedings.

This activity is used as a way of controlling animal population especially for the herbivores. The animals to be hunted will include the Elephants, Buffalos and Zebras.rwanda gorilla safari

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) spokesperson Lillian Nsubuga said a deal had been agreed authorizing a private company to sell sport hunting licenses in some areas of the country.

There is now enough wildlife in some areas to support carefully managed hunting,” Nsubuga explained. “We want local communities to benefit from these animals, and of course sport hunting is one way.”gorilla tours rwanda

She added that licenses will only be issued for areas not currently designated as wildlife reserves.

Uganda lost a lot of wildlife to the 1981-86 civil war and since that time we have been trying to recover from that loss. However, the animal numbers have increased with time and Nsubuga claimed that in certain districts several populations, particularly elephant and buffalo, have recovered to the point where they are now a burden to local farmers, disrupting cattle grazing routes and damaging crops.gorilla safaris uganda

This will be another way of getting more foreign earnings and employing the locals like UWA suggested. District residents, who for years have been hunting illegally, will be employed as guides, according to UWA.kenya safari tour guide
