Why is Halloween Hated by most christians?
I just don’t understand it? If they actually knew anything about the original holiday, I don’t think they should think it is satanic. "Halloween has origins in the ancient festival known as Samhain which is derived from Old Irish and means roughly "summer’s end".The festival of Samhain celebrates the end of the "lighter half" of the year and beginning of the "darker half", and is sometimes regarded as the "Celtic New Year". The celebration has some elements of a festival of the dead. The ancient Celts believed that the border between this world and the Other world became thin on Samhain, allowing spirits (both harmless and harmful) to pass through. The family’s ancestors were honored and invited home whilst harmful spirits were warded off. It is believed that the need to ward off harmful spirits led to the wearing of costumes and masks. Their purpose was to disguise oneself as a harmful spirit and thus avoid harm."
I answered my own question "paganism"? That doesn’t answer my question at all most Christians put christmas trees up in their homes which is directly Pagan, That does not answer my question sir.
As for the "glorifing death" statements isn’t that what funerals do aswell?
Living is the Bible belt i get alot of people handing out pamphlets of the EVILS OF HALLOWEEN or Satan was a trick or treater. It is very very hated where i live.
Interesting, but out of all the Christians I know, only a very few — the more blind-faith, fundamentalist / evangelical ones — are Halloweenophobic.
Coincidently or not, they are also the same Christians who believe whatever their preachers tell them, without question.
Now *that’s* scary. Happy Halloween.

They hate it because they don’t control it.

I am a Christian and I have no problem with celebrating Halloween as you stated. I simply do not allow my children to dress up in completely off the chain evil characters

You answered your own question, Paganism

Christian motto=Hate everything you dont understand.
Don Corleone | Oct 30, 2009
It stemmed from a pagan holiday! Plus I’m Lutheran, so I celebrate Reformation Day on October 31 instead! I don’t think people who celebrate Halloween are going to hell but you won’t see me dressed up in a devil costume.

"It" glorifies death.

Because by many it is considered wrong and evil originated, pagan etc. It’s also disliked by many Muslims. From many Islamic points of view, it’s considered as a form of idolatry (or shirk).

what makes you think most christians hate halloween?
I know hundreds of christians, we hold a halloween party for the kids every year.
Littlepretty1 | Oct 30, 2009
Satan is the enemy to Christians. That’s why they’re queasy about celebrating it (some of them). \
As long as kids have fun, keep safe and get candy, there is no problem. I did that as a kid.
I do know that some have real good reasons to fear Oct. 31st–Halloween.
cat_WOMAN | Oct 30, 2009
It’s origins from a non-Christian religion is exactly why they hate it.
JOExHIGASHI | Oct 30, 2009
its the only holiday they can’t christianize. They took everything else from the Pagans.
Bria | Oct 30, 2009
It’s not. In fact, Hallowe’en is in fact, a Christian holiday, as it celebrates the Light Of Christ Defeating the powers of Darkness.
The day after Hallowe’en is All Saints’ Day, followed by All Souls’ Day.

Believers are NOT THE ONLY ONES.
LOOK-UP ANYTHING IN SCRIPTURE CONCERNING ‘WITCHCRAFT.
THAT’S WHAT IT IS …PAGAN WITCH CRAFT.
YAHWEH DOES NOT LIKE IT EITHER; WE’RE ON HIS SIDE.

It reminds them that their holidays have similar antecedents, from pagan traditions. With that knowledge, it troubles them by providing doubt that their holidays and beliefs are legitimate, since their doctrine insists on the illegitimacy of pagan religions.
Also, since the majority of people celebrate halloween, they cannot claim that this is a "christian" nation with a straight face.

The serious ones (eg. the fundies) think anything that isn’t Christian is from Satan, even if it’s about love and compassion. They’re just that crazy.
Nerdlinger ~ | Oct 30, 2009
halloween is not hated by most Christians, perhaps maybe just the extreme fundamentalists.why do you assume that ‘most" Christians hate it?
moose | Oct 30, 2009
To the answerer who said "It glorifies death": Well, is that not what Christians do when they take communion?
Eh, anyway. To answer the question, I think they hate it because they see it as "pagan". Which is fascinating, considering Christianity’s roots are steeped in Paganism.
Genane F | Oct 30, 2009
Because there is nothing about the Christinsanity religion that is original. All of it is plagiarized from other existing beliefs, and mostly pagan ones.
All they ever do is slander anything they can’t control or destroy.
All hallows eve is the natural cycle of the new year. Where the death of life and its actual death in the winter, are the closest.
It is to honor the memories of our ancestors, back through the ages to the first spark of life. They were all successful in bringing each of our lives into existence.

that statement is very inaccurate. all the people at my church go trick or treating, my family does, i do, and we are all Christians. all my Christian friends do. where are your statistics?
Ville | Oct 30, 2009
Christians are scared of shadows. Modern Halloween is a celebration of fear and being scared. Christians cannot handle being scared (part of why they became Christians in the first place: fear of hell).
No Not Really | Oct 30, 2009
Because Christians are by and large fairly ignorant. They never study anything. Their pastors generally are not required to have any education, and it shows. But they say the stupidest things from the pulpit, and since the sheep think those morons are "called by god" to serve, it must be true.
There is nothing intelligent about blind faith. Their personal growth is stunted because they were taught never to ask questions. Christianity, especially among the fundies, is a great big clusterf.
The early church actually adopted it as a Holiday to entice pagans to join. If they reject Halloween because of that, they should also be rejecting Easter and Christmas.

paganism
Griffondor Pheonix | Oct 30, 2009
umm, America is 80% Christian and 95% of kids in this country go trick or treating and it is just as popular amongst adults, so i am not seeing the hatred for the ” Eve Of All saints ” here.

Who knows… but if you’re a Pagan like me, you come to expect to have at least one Samhain question reported and deleted on YA each year just because these Christians hate Pagans.
