the legend lives on...Jan. 1, 2006

i was reading about the 1970 national champions, The University of Texas. they were the last Texas team to have a perfect record and to win the national championship. an interesting note i wasn't aware of was that a few games earlier, one of their rising star players, Freddie Joe Steinmark, went to the doctors after sustaining a leg injury. he was diagnosed with cancer of the femur and had to had his leg amputated immediately. flashback to a couple of weeks in the future to the championship game.  Freddie Joe Steinmark showed up on the sidelines, even after being warned by the doctors not to attend due to his recent cancer and amputation. Texas was playing Notre Dame that year and found themselves behind late in the 4th quarter. somehow they managed to pull off a victory and became National Champions. the gameball was dedicated to Freddie Joe Steinmark. even though he wasn't able to play, his spirit was what inspired the team to rally and win. He died a year later from cancer at 22.

how does this story pertain to the present? recently a few games ago when Texas fell behind during one of their games... the player from 1970, who inspired that texas team onto victory, also inspired the 2005 team onto their victory. even after 35 years, his legend still lives on. Good Luck to my Longhorns when they play the University of Southern California on January 4.

take care everyone and have a wonderful day.
