Bushisms - An analysis"I think -- tide turning -- see, as I remember -- I was raised in the desert, but tides kind of -- it's easy to see a tide turn -- did I say those words?" --George W. Bush, asked if the tide was turning in Iraq, Washington, D.C., June 14, 2006One has to wonder if this guy is on drugs ? Think i am joking? That wasnt a joke. How many people would answer the question this way ? Try it, YOU answer the question, right now. Here it is.... Sir, do you think the tide is turning in Iraq ? Now, how many of you, started thinking about if you were born in a desert ? Its understandable to stuble over words, but whats NOT understandable, is to not think about the question. Clearly, his mind was elsewhere. I cant get into Bush's mind, but it seems at times, (many times) this guy cant put 2 brain cells together. Part of it, i think, is that he is used to having things handed to him on a silver platter, and never have had to answer hard questions. I have seen some interviews with him from him running for Governor in Tx, and he seemed to be able have at least a 1/2 way intelligent debate. I dont think he has ever been an intilectual Einstein, but I think he has gotten much WORSE at answering questions, and at staying focused on a subject for more than 20 seconds. It seems at times he just gets totally frustrated, and doesnt want to focus, or listen to any reason at all. Now, its no secret that this guy is a bit sheltered. Maria Bartiromo: "I'm curious, have you ever googled anybody? Do you use Google?" President Bush: "Occasionally. One of the things I've used on the Google is to pull up maps. It's very interesting to see -- I've forgot the name of the program -- but you get the satellite, and you can -- like, I kinda like to look at the ranch. It remind me of where I wanna be sometimes." --interview with CNBC's Maria Bartiromo, Oct. 24, 2006 (Watch video clip) Now, not everyone is a blogger, and thats fine, but there are several things i see in this statement that are downright scary! First, it appears that he actually thinks that you can turn a satelitte in real time, when you ask for a location on a map ! Of course the PROGRAM, is not a program, its a website called google maps, and "the google" speaks for itself. Not to mention that instead of looking where IRAN is on a map (or something usefull) , he looks at his ranch. "I hear there's rumors on the Internets that we're going to have a draft." —presidential debate, St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 8, 2004 "We both use Colgate toothpaste." —after a reporter asked what he had in common with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Camp David, Md., Feb. 23, 2001 So, here Bush cant think of anything in common with Blair. But, it is more than that. It is that Bush, doesnt take the question as a professional one, he takes it as a personal one. A deeper meaning still, might be that he is not in touch with the reporter, or the American people, in that he cant seem to answer the question without being fed to him more directly. If he were asked... Are your views on Foreign policy inline with that of Mr Blair, he may have answered it OK. To me, it appears that he has a LIST of answers that have been written for him, becuase he CANT adlib. "Do you have blacks, too?" —to Brazilian President Fernando Cardoso, Washington, D.C., Nov. 8, 2001 THIS, is the type of dribble that flows from him, when not prompted... I glance at the headlines just to kind of get a flavor for what's moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read the news themselves." —Washington, D.C., Sept. 21, 2003 "I'm the commander — see, I don't need to explain — I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being president." —as quoted in Bob Woodward's Bush at War "We need an energy bill that encourages consumption." —Trenton, N.J., Sept. 23, 2002 "This foreign policy stuff is a little frustrating." —as quoted by the New York Daily News, April 23, 2002 "I couldn't imagine somebody like Osama bin Laden understanding the joy of Hanukkah." —at a White House menorah lighting ceremony, Washington, D.C., Dec. 10, 2001 "I'm also not very analytical. You know I don't spend a lot of time thinking about myself, about why I do things." —aboard Air Force One, June 4, 2003 "This business about graceful exit just simply has no realism to it at all." --George W. Bush, on speculation that U.S. troops could be withdrawn from Iraq, Amman, Jordan, Nov. 30, 2006 "The only way we can win is to leave before the job is done." --George W. Bush, Greeley, Colo., Nov. 4, 2006 (Watch video clip) "Anybody who is in a position to serve this country ought to understand the consequences of words." --George W. Bush, interview with Rush Limbaugh, Nov. 1, 2006 "This morning my administration released the budget numbers for fiscal 2006. These budget numbers are not just estimates; these are the actual results for the fiscal year that ended February the 30th." --George W. Bush, on the fiscal year that ended on Sept. 30, Washington, D.C., Oct. 11, 2006 (Watch video clip) "The Patriot Act has increased the flow of information within our government and it has helped break up terrorist cells in the United States of America. And the United States Congress was right to renew the terrorist act -- the Patriot Act." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C. , Sept. 7, 2006 "You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror." --George W. Bush, interview with CBS News' Katie Couric, Sept. 6, 2006 "I said I was looking for a book to read, Laura said you ought to try Camus. I also read three Shakespeares. ... I've got a eck-a-lec-tic reading list." --George W. Bush, interview with NBC's Brian Williams, New Orleans, La., Aug. 29, 2006 (Watch video clip) Yahoo!
