I Have a Tendency to Make Myself Laugh | |
The Land of the GrayOkay this is something that I have dealt with for many years. And now that it is fresh on my mind I would like everyone’s opinion on it. There are many situations in life where there is a clear wrong and right that can be done. Like murder… that is obviously something that you don’t do because it’s wrong. But then there are other issues such as cussing where people feel if it’s done in humor or if it has non-negative intentions that it’s okay. So I guess my question for you is do you believe in black and white or do you believe that there is always a gray area? In life we do so many things, and I know that as a Christian I have to make an account for everything I have done. I’ve gone back and forth on this issue because it’s really idealistic to believe that there is only black and white. We as humans want to believe that it is simply right and wrong or good and bad. But then there’s always that little bit of a “but” that sneaks in… the gray. I know as a person (my flesh) it’s easy for me to allow a bit of gray. I mean we should all have some balance right? But I’m worried that the long-term effects of allowing myself to live in the gray will get me in the long run. I don’t want to go to heaven and have to explain to God that the reason why I sinned was because it was a gray area and I thought it was all good. See I don’t think God cares that we didn’t want to lie so we could spare someone’s feelings. All He sees is the lie. But then if I don’t like your hair and I tell you so… I’m a jerk. I’ve been looking in the Bible for places where God allowed someone to operate in the gray… I couldn’t really find much of it. None actually. I see a few times where God will make an exception; but do you consider that gray? I’m not sure where I’m going with this or why I’m really even writing it but I am a bit curious what your take is. I know where I stand and to be honest what you say will not sway me either way (unless it is supremely impressive). It would, however, be interesting to see the different takes on this topic.
