Life's a Game... And I Win

I am, quite possibly, the most competitive person in the entire world. By looking at me you would never guess that I would go to all lengths to win… in pretty much anything so long as it was on strictly my terms. Let me explain… if you sing with me and we all have water bottles… it is my goal to finish my water first. Why am I like this? I don’t know. I’m not good at sports (I suffer from being incurably un-athletic) and I tend to compete silently. That’s probably how I win… but my competitiveness was brought yet again to my attention by my sister Jess. See she started calling me in the mornings so I could get up and pray… it was important to me to pray in the morning but I just don’t get up at all. So Jess has been helping me out. Anyway I started getting up on my own (a little bit) and it was earlier then Jess. So we decided whoever was up first would call the other. So Wednesday morning I woke up at 4:50am and called Jess. Now no one is completely coherent at 4:50am… and I literally called her the second I woke up. So when she answered the phone instead of saying good morning or something cute like that I simply said “I win” So Wednesday night at church Jess asked me what it was about; and then I realized this was just another game for me… sad but true. I am completely incurably competitive. I feel like it’s okay though because it is biblical:

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get a prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

See God encourages us to be competitive… in fact I have a game now… whoever posts the most witty, entertaining, thoughtful comment wins… GO

Winning the Game

5:11 PM, Jun. 12, 2005 .. Posted by Sophia Dartinovaya
It recently occurred to me that perhaps part of the reason certain people win the “finish the water bottle first” game is that certain people concurrently finish everyone else’s water bottles as well. Point in fact: two out of four Sundays a month someone who shall remain nameless shares with you.
Another part of this puzzle of the Lindsey Always Wins madness is that there are, what, a BILLION – no, a MILLION BILLION people in this world and only about maybe ten of those people know you see life as a game. That’s a whopping .000000000000001% there. And of those ten people that know you see life is a game, only maybe two of them are competitive. And those two see it as pointless to compete with someone who refuses to lose. Of course we all, in truth, don’t WANT to lose, but some of us would rather walk away knowing that we won while still being okay with the fact that someone we love is happy thinking they won too. Too many arguments, too many battles have been fought because someone wanted to win. Why argue? Isn’t KNOWING you won enough? Now this is where things get sticky, because one of the great joys in life besides being happy is having those you love be happy with you about the same thing. What to do, then, about being the winner? Well, look at it this way:
1. Everyone plays the game of life
2. Everyone has lives a different life and no two lives or lifestyles are congruent (EXACTLY THE SAME IN EVERY WAY)
3. If everyone plays a different game of life because all lives are different, then….
4. YOU WIN YOUR RACE, HANDS DOWN. No one runs your race quite like you.
5. I WIN MY RACE, HANDS DOWN. No one runs my race quite like me.
6. WE ALL ARE WINNERS

Now, for the sake of not sounding like a motivational speaker (and we all know how effective they are if they all end up living in a van down by the river) I must elaborate. You wrote, and I quote “all the runners run, but only one gets the prize”. This is true. Only one runner IN MY RACE OF LIFE, which pertains to “the task the Lord Jesus has given me,” will win the prize. But that task was given to me – just as your separate but equally important task was given to you. So I must win. But so must you. Do you see where I am going with this? Everyone has a different race to run, a different game to win. We are not all winners if we all do not run the race but for those of us who run, all the blood spilled, BACK SWEAT PRODUCED and tears cried, and sushi spilled will not have been in vain. This is indeed a comforting thought for those of us who are clumsy (a shout out to all my clumsy homies) who may trip and fall – SEVERAL TIMES – during the running of the race. The good news is … “You can get back up again, get back up again” (thank you Pastor Donnie). You may get tired. That’s life. It’s part of the game. Get back up. Keep going. You’re gonna win sooner or later. Just remember, on the way to the finish line…
Make sure you don’t catch your breath at the van down by the river.

Note: This is a comment for Lindsey's already over-musical mind! Please sing this little ditty to the old Beatles tune:

OH BLOG DEE
OH BLOG DAH
I'M RANDOM...YEAH!
OH OH OH OH OH
YOUR BLOGS DA BOMB!

This next tune is familiar only because Miss Annetta was fortunate enough to hear my witty little rap: Side note: Just imagine a little Jewish man with weird little braids hanging off of his face!

Her name is Miss Linzy,
This is how my rap beginzy,
Don't get all in a frinzy,
It will be over in a minzy,
We were at the leadin' leaties,
dancin' to the beaties,
Gettin' real schweaties,
Better eat your wheaties!
Your poo stinky stinky,
You light a match named winky,
He do the jobby jobby,
I think you found your hobby!
Do you like wasabi?
Meet me in the lobby!
She's going through the puberty?
SHOOBEY WHOOBEY WHOOBERTY!
You probably at your worky,
Eatin' beans and turkey,
When you take your breaky,
Do the Shakey, Shakey!
Now you better call the fiber,
And watch out for the liger!
Amen
