inspiration comes standard...so does support

A little narative of my drive home yesterday:

Driving down the highway in rush hour traffic, I'm thinking about the conversation me and my husband had earlier. He had come back from a mission and promptly got online to tell me he was ok and would be home sometime in the next week or so. A couple of hours later he calls. It is so good to hear his voice. Then he tells me about their mission earlier in the day. They got hit by an IED while on patrol. I am hysterical. He assured me that everyone, including he, is ok and proceeds to tell me how they went about catching the guy that had set of the bomb. Of course I am still upset and crying...my whole drive home, I am in tears. The thought of the possibility of losing him is killing me. So I am driving listening to my Toby Keith album...of course "American Soldier" is blasting. I am feeling very down, and very relieved that my hubby is ok...and the same for his troop. Tears streaming from under my huge set of guys Oakley sunglasses and I look over at the car passing me and see that the guy is wearing a military uniform shirt. He looks at the ribbon magnet for the armed forces tacked onto the side of my car and slows down. "He must be reading my ribbons," I thought. He did. He drove up beside me, gave me a look of "I understand, and I appreciate you" and gives me a thumbs up and nods. We drive beside each other for a while, and when he takes his exit he waves and nods at me. All I can do is cry and nod my head in understanding. No words are exchanged. Just gestures of knowing...understanding. I was beaming with pride for my husband at that moment. And at that moment I realized that my husband is a hero. I mean, he has always been MY hero...but he is other peoples' hero. I am one lucky woman to have such a brave, young, smart, handsome United States Soldier by my side. God Bless him and all our men and women serving in our armed forces.
