Every four years, the big guessing game in politics involves who the presidential nominees will choose as their running mate. On the Republican side, John McCain is looking at a host of potential politicians, including Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. Today, in the Democratic Party, rumors are swirling that Obama is seriously considering Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. Obama would be wise to choose Kaine, who is a moderate white Governor of a key Southern state. Kaine might shore up support for Obama among working class white voters. The biggest reason to choose Kaine is that he might help the Democrats secure the electoral votes in the State of Virginia. Virginia is considered a “purple state,” not in the camp of either political party. Kaine is popular in his home state and would probably tip Virginia toward the Democrats.
