New Hanover anounces school closings, plans shelter openings ...Sep. 5, 2008
Published: Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Local governments met today to make decisions on emergency shelters and evacuations.Among the announcements: * New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender county schools have canceled classes for Friday. * Eaton and Johnson elementary schools in New Hanover County will open at noon as shelters. Noble Middle School will operate as a pet-friendly shelter. * Voluntary evacuations have been authorized for New Hanover County beach towns, mobile home parks and low-lying and flood-prone areas. Surf City and Topsail Beach in Pender County have called for voluntary evacuations as well. * A state of emergency will be declared at 6 a.m. Friday, part of the process to begin qualifying for assistance from FEMA.Meanwhile, homeowners at area beaches have begun securing their homes and property and stocking up on supplies. Traffic slows at Toledo BendSep. 5, 2008
Toledo Bend, La. Labor Day (Sept. However, the fall and winter months are some of the best fishing times of the year with cooler temperatures, hungry fish and very little boat traffic.  Personally, I long for this very special time of the year. There's nothing quite like the first cool front of fall. It is magical! LAKE CONDITIONS: Lake levels have been on the fall and stand at 169.21 feet with both generators operating from noon until 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Water temps are 87-89 degrees with all of lake having good-to-excellent water conditions. With water levels three feet low, boaters should use caution. Water temperatures, more than likely, have peaked as nights are getting longer and days are getting shorter. Top water favorites worked over shallow grass include Frenzy Poppers (Grey Ghost), Chug Bug and Yellow Magic and all of these have a common feathered or teaser tail. Syndication Ratings: Steady in Face of OlympicsSep. 5, 2008
At the end of its annual two-week production hiatus -- meaning that the usually fresh show was in repeats -- and facing the Olympics, Disney-ABC’s Live with Regis and Kelly had the biggest decline in syndication in the week ended Aug. Regis and Kelly dropped 17% to a 2.0 live-plus-same-day household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research. That marked the series’ lowest rating since Nielsen began maintaining its current database in 1991.
