Missouri’s Proposed Amendment 2 Developments. . . that's the subject of this Big B File.
Since I wrote the Big B file entitled "Missouri’s Proposed Amendment 2 and Claire McCaskill" on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, There have been a number of developments. First, I have come across some interesting research materials. The research articles are listed below:
On Monday night, the Oreilly Factor TV program conducted an investigation into who is bankrolling the effort to pass amendment in Missouri. ,

According to The O'Reilly Factor, "A billionaire couple, Jim and Virginia Stowers, has pumped $29 million 'The Missouri Coalition for Lifesaving Cures' – 97% of its financial
support—in an effort to get the amendment passed. the factor also discovered that the Stovers, their non-profits, and biotech companies stand to gain Billions . . .that's right . . .Billions of Dollars in total revenue, if not profits oner the next few years. By the way, according to the The O'Reilly Factor, Jim Stowers is the founder & CEO of American Century Investments, a privately held asset management firm with a $100 billion portfolio. The Stovers (through their foundation are going to the extremes top make sure that Amendment 2 passes Why? Apparently, as the The O'Reilly Factor also discovered , the Stovers, their
non-profits, and biotech companies stand to gain Billions . . .that's
right . . .Billions of Dollars in total revenue, if not profits oner
the next few years. It seems like they want to to make money on Embryonic Stem Cell Research and Human Cloning and have Missouri Taxpayers foot the bill for them at the same time. Finally, the Big B Files received this in an email from the Google Groups "OSMM-Announce", a part of our Sorrowful Mother's Ministry in Vandalia, IL . . .
Dear
Friends,
This is a
letter that I find difficult to write because I am not a political
person, and I don't believe in imposing my views on
others. But I am deeply troubled by the inaccuracies that are being
used to shape public opinion in favor of the Missouri stem cell amendment
on the November ballot and I feel a responsibility to speak out since I
understand the scientific and medical issues.
If you read
nothing else, please read this: Amendment 2 is a deceptive
piece of legislation that may mislead Missourians into
approving a constitutional right to human cloning, something over 80
percent oppose. It would create a uniquely privileged status for biotech
special interests to do human cloning experiments with taxpayer
money.
If the
industrial revolution were just now starting and we had the choice of
developing a society dependent on solar energy rather
than oil, is there any doubt that we would choose solar energy? I think
that we face a similar choice today regarding embryonic stem cells versus adult
stem cells. Embryonic stem cells may seem to the lay person to offer
greater promise for cures, but even if this were true (which it is not),
embryonic stem cell therapies will create an insatiable and unceasing demand
for more and more womens¹ eggs. And once a hugh biotech industrial
complex is establish that is dependent on women's eggs to generate more and more
cloned stem cells, it will be impossible for us to get rid of it. In
contrast, investing our resources in adult stem cells will ultimately result in
similar or greater cures than embryonic stem cells without creating a
biotech industrial complex that pursues women¹s eggs the way oil companies
plunder our land for oil profits.
The basic
arguments for the stem cell amendment are essentially that (1)
embryonic stem cell research has tremendous potential
for curing a wide variety of diseases, and (2) any concerns that this
research will be abused are unfounded because we can trust the medical and
scientific community to regulate itself.
Being
knowledgeable of stem cell biology and related medical research, I am
deeply skeptical that either of these arguments is
true.
As many of you
know, I am a physician-scientist at Washington University School of Medicine and
have received millions of dollars in research funding, part of which
has been for stem cell research related to cancer. I approached this
amendment without preconceived opinions and have read the amendment
carefully. I have listened to the arguments on both sides. After
sifting through the rhetoric, I have concluded that
there is nothing about embryonic stem cells that would indicate that they are
better than adult stem cells for curing human disease. In fact,
there are many problems with embryonic stem cells, such as rejection and
cancer formation. Further, adult stem cell research and therapies do
not endanger women who must donate eggs for embryonic stem
cells.
These
deceptive tactics by the amendment proponents say to me that "you are
not
intelligent enough to understand the issues so I will intentionally
deceive you for your own good."
As a medical
professional, I believe that my responsibility is to make sure
the
public understands the issues so that they can make up their own mind.
Thus, my goal in this letter is not to convince you of
my personal opinions, but to make sure you have the facts from a doctor and
scientist who understands the issues and does not have political or
monetary motives.
Some of the
most common arguments in favor of the amendment are as
follows:
- Argument #
1: Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), which is the type of
process for creating stem cells that is at stake in this
amendment, is not human cloning.
MY
RESPONSE: When scientists talk about cloning, SCNT is exactly what they
are
talking about. SCNT is the medical dictionary definition of
cloning.
The amendment
proponents claim that SCNT is not cloning unless the cell is placed into a woman¹s
womb, but that has never been the medical definition of cloning. That
is like saying that a nuclear bomb is not a weapon unless it is dropped on
people. The potential for harm and abuse is great, even if
one
does not intend to act on this potential!
The fact is
that this amendment not only allows human cloning, it creates a
uniquely protected right to perform human
cloning!
- Argument
#2: Embryonic stem cell research has the potential for curing many
more diseases than adult stem cells.
MY
RESPONSE: There is no scientific evidence for this claim. Many
people have been led to believe that we have not yet seen the
incredible curative potential of embryonic stem cells because this research
is banned. The truth is that embryonic stem cells is not banned and
never has been. Embryonic stem cells have been researched for many years
and have been reported in the medical literature as early as
1963! And yet, there is no evidence that embryonic stem cells have
cured any disease, even in animals.
But what is
really frustrating for someone like me who is involved in stem
cell research is that the success of adult stem cells is
being ignored by the amendment proponents. Advantages of adult stem
cells over embryonic stem cells: (1) they are the only stem cells that
have been shown to cure disease in animals, (2) they do not require egg
extraction and the associated risks to women, (3) they have amazing
plasticity (the ability to change into many different cell types) that far exceeds
anyone's expectations. For example, stem cells from bone
marrow can be turned into brain cells.
If adult stem
cells are likely to be just as good, if not better, than embryonic stem cells,
why expose women to risky egg extraction and create a huge demand for eggs
that will surely end up in the exploitation of poor, disadvantaged women and
young, college-aged women with limited financial resources?
- Argument
#3: SCNT will not endanger women.
RESPONSE: To be honest, this is my greatest
concern. Despite loud cries to the contrary, the widespread use of SCNT
for medical research and treatment will unquestionably jeopardize the health
of women, particularly poor disadvantaged women and young, college-age women with
limited financial resources who will be tempted to allow themselves to be
given synthetic hormones and undergo surgical procedures to extract eggs
in exchange for monetary awards. We are not talking about a few
hundred cloned embryos, but rather, millions and millions will be needed for this
research!. And the need for more eggs will never end. Even if laws
are passed to regulate this process, profiteers will undoubtedly go to third world
countries to find willing subjects.
- Argument
#4. How could this amendment be a bad idea when leading scientists
and
physicians support it?
RESPONSE: Many scientists and physicians,
including myself, support adult stem cell research, but are deeply
concerned about embryonic stem cell research and human cloning. The
reason that you do not hear more experts speak out against this amendment is that
their voices have been muted. The amendment proponents have identified one
wealthy couple in Kansas City who donated virtually all of the $16 million
that is being used to saturate the media with pro-amendment information.
Meanwhile, those who are concerned about this amendment have been denied the
opportunity for public debate and discourse by our medical schools and
universities. Suffice to say, the freedom of speech violations at ostensibly
liberal universities to suppress voices against this amendment are
breathtaking!
Final
Thoughts
If for no
other reason, I am deeply disturbed by this amendment because of
the
deception being used to promote it. For example, Cynthia Kramer, who is
running for state office in our district, has used this
issue to promote her campaign by implying that her life-threatening disease
could have been treated more effectively with embryonic stem
cells. After questioning her campaign office and reading the text of
many of her interviews and website statements, I can find no evidence for this
claim. In reality, she received adult stem cells in the form of a bone
marrow transplant, and the fact that she is still alive is evidence that this
adult stem cell transplant was successful! When she went to Israel
seeking a cure¹ for her disease, they told her to come back to Missouri where she
could get the best care available anywhere!
I personally
know of many other examples of deliberate deceptions, intentional
misinformation, and freedom of speech violations.
My practice
focuses on patients with cancer, and I am profoundly wounded when one of them dies
of their disease. I am in the trenches every day, and I understand what is at
stake. But I am convinced that this amendment is not the right direction
for our state. There are much more effective ways we can spend our money
and time, without endangering women.
We all have to
make our own decisions, and democracy only works well if we make those decisions
based on facts. Whatever opinion you develop on this issue, I hope that it
is based on facts. Please feel free to email me if you have more specific
questions or if you would like to talk.
Thanks for
your attention.

Missouri’s Proposed Amendment 2 and Claire McCaskill’s recent campaign ad . . .That’s the subject of this Big B File.
On the way home from my sisters’ place in Chesterfield to my Apartment in Florissant, Missouri, I heard a soundbite of Michael J. Fox on the Matt Drudge on 97.1 FM Talk. I have also seen ad he did for Claire McCaskill for Senate. In the Clip from his appearance on Good Morning America, Mr. Fox says that people like myself who oppose Amendment 2 are in the minority. What!?! Michael J. Fox has gotten a number of things wrong, not to mention out of context. Allow me to correct the record here. • Last time I checked, I have seen far more signs for Jim Talent and for opposing Amendment 2. I have encountered very few people who say that they will support amendment 2 based upon this , I thing that the amendment will go down to a huge defeat. • I have heard news stories about various studies over the years that the only benefits of stem cell research that have come from research on Adult stem cells and Stem cells that come from the blood from the umbilical chord. • I have never read or seen news reports about a single study of positive results that have come from that Embryotic. To the contrary, I have seen examples of how bad the effects of experiments using Embryotic Stem Cells have turned out. In many cases, they have had deformities and have resulted in Lab rats developing cancer . . . cancer (no joke). Contrary to what Michael J . Fox, Sheryl Crow, and other proponents of Amendment 2 have been saying, it does allow a certain kind of cloning called Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer (SCNT) and embryonic Stem cell research, which the Majority of people in Missouri and the United States are opposed to on moral grounds. Those of us who oppose Embryonic Stem Cell Research and Human Cloning (or any cloning for that matter) have absolutely no problems with the research using the other forms of stem cells, Adult stem cells and stem cells from the umbilical cord blood. In reference to the argument from the proponents of Amendment 2 on research using ALL forms of Stem cells, including embryotic stem cells, that “with the use of cell therapies, we may soon have dramatic cures for cancer, Parkinson’s, diabetes, kidney disease, multiple sclerosis, macular degeneration and a host of other diseases. Cell therapies have also shown great promise in helping to repair catastrophic spinal injuries, and helping victims of paralysis regain movement. It is even possible that the human life span could be greatly extended due to the replenishment of tissues in aging organs.” Oh really? In 1994, the voters in California were presented with and approved Proposition 71, which was very Similar to, if not the same as, Amendment 2 currently on the ballot here in Missouri. See the wording of the two ballot measures for yourself: CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 71 (2004) • Should the "California Institute for Regenerative Medicine" be established to regulate and fund stem cell research with the constitutional right to conduct such research and with an oversight committee? Prohibits funding of human reproductive cloning research. • Establishes "California Institute for Regenerative Medicine" to regulate stem cell research and provide funding, through grants and loans, for such research and research facilities. • Establishes constitutional right to conduct stem cell research; prohibits Institute's funding of human reproductive cloning research. • Establishes oversight committee to govern Institute. • Provides General Fund loan up to $3 million for Institute's initial administration/implementation costs. • Authorizes issuance of general obligation bonds to finance Institute activities up to $3 billion subject to annual limit of $350 million • Appropriates monies from General Fund to pay for bonds. MISSOURI’S PROPOSED AMENDMENT 2 (2006) • Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to allow and set limitations on stem cell research, therapies, and cures which will: • ensure Missouri patients have access to any therapies and cures, and allow Missouri researchers to conduct any research, permitted under federal law; • ban human cloning or attempted cloning; • require expert medical and public oversight and annual reports on the nature and purpose of stem cell research; • impose criminal and civil penalties for any violations; and • prohibit state or local governments from preventing or discouraging lawful stem cell research, therapies and cures? • The proposed constitutional amendment would have an estimated annual fiscal impact on state and local governments of $0-$68,916. According to Reuters, a study came out this past Sunday and “researchers Steven Goldman and colleagues at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York said human stem cells injected into rat brains turned into cells that looked like early tumors. Writing in the journal Nature Medicine, the researchers said the transplants clearly helped the rats, but some of the cells started growing in a way that could eventually lead to a tumor.” This has been the case with Human Cloning and embryotic Stem Cell Research from the beginning. All the “successful” cloning experiments have eventually ended in failure . . . Remember Dolly the Sheep? She had to be put down due to a whole hose of health complications that were a direct result of the Cloning. It is morally wrong to create Human Embryos and them to destroy them period, not just for Embryonic Stem Cell Research, and to clone Human Beings for research purposes (or any cloning for that matter). Let Mr. Fox and others use their own money to fund the research themselves . . not our hard earned tax dollars. I just hope that they are willing to live with the real bad effects of Embryonic Stem Cell Research as the study mentioned above Illustrates. It would also wipe out 47 different laws that are currently on the books in Missouri and as was said on Allman & Smash Morning Show on 97.1 FM Talk this morning. The hosts put it best when they said that passing this amendment would be like the writing a continous blank check to the Biotech Industry. Big B files wants to leave you with the following story clip from Wednesday, October 4, 2006 edition of the Washington post about the effects of Proposition 71 in California two years later. . . . South-Central L.A. Hospital in Critical Condition King/Drew, Founded After '65 Watts Riots, Likely to Cut Services After Failing Inspection LOS ANGELES — Activists who fought hard to bring a hospital to south-central Los Angeles after the 1965 Watts riots are in mourning since the announcement that their beloved but deeply troubled hospital failed a crucial federal inspection and will lose more than half its funding. While the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors weighs a proposal to slash services and turn most of King/Drew Medical Center’s management over to a nearby county facility, African American community members met for a combination pep rally and wake. Its [King/Drew] trauma center was closed in 2004, dealing a blow to community pride and further diminishing emergency care in Los Angeles County, where nine emergency rooms and trauma centers have closed in the past five years. - Portion of an Article by By Sonya Geis, Washington Post Staff Writer. The free speech rights of your pastor, other ministers and churches to speak on ANY issue without repercussions from the IRS . . .That's the Subject of this Big B File. Ambo (Also Referred to as Lectern or Pulpit)
|
Imagine this . . .You are in your church. During the Mass or Services, your Pastor is giving their sermon talking about Abortion (or any other issue of the day) and/or your U.S. Senator's stance on the issue. Suddenly, an IRS Enforcement Officer bursts in the door and comes up to the pulpit and places a gag on them and said that, as a result of the sermon, your church will now have to pay income taxes to the IRS. This will be including back taxes, fines and penalties. That is exactly what the fear that churches, Synagogues, and Mosques have been under since 1954 when, as Jay Sekelow of the American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ) . . . then-Senator Lyndon B. Johnson sought political retribution against an opponent who was assisted in his campaign by two non-profit organizations. As a bill to revise the tax code was being debated on the floor of the Senate, LBJ pushed a little-noticed amendment that barred all tax-exempt groups – including churches –from participating in political activity. The penalty: loss of tax-exempt status." That amendment is now known as the"Johnson Amendment" and created Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, which, as the website hr235.org states:
- "Since the "Johnson Amendment" the IRS has had a gag order over houses of worship that forbids religious leaders to speak out on the moral issues of the day. If found in violation of this law, the church, mosque or synagogue would be in jeopardy of losing their tax-exempt status."
For years, it has seemed like the Priests, Rabbis, and Clerics have had a gag over their mouths with the threat that if they said anything on moral issues that the IRS could term as "Political Speech", that the IRS would revoked their house of worship's tax-exempt status and end up owing taxes up the wazoo (including back taxes and fines that the IRS wants to impose at will). For years, this threat has been used against Conservative Churches a.k.a. churches and other houses of worship that adhere to the true values of the Bible, Jewish Torah, and/or the Koran (in the case of Islam). Yet, in every single Presidential election as far as I can remember (and I was born in June 1975), I have seen the Democratic candidates for President go into the Black Churches and give the same political campaign speech that they would later give at a campaign event someplace else that is not a church (without repercussions from the IRS), but lately, the Liberal Churches are now finding their ministers have the very same gag placed over their mouths. Check out the CBN News Story "Politics, Free Speech, and the Church" for such an example. the example about All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, California . . .and as the CBN News Story says, "All Saints Episcopal, in downtown Pasadena, is known as one of the most liberal churches around; they're anti-war, pro-choice, and even ordain homosexual priests". Here is another Scenario. a horrible tragedy of a Hurricane Katrina or (God Forbid) 9/11 nature occurred a few months back and your community, including your community's leaders (Mayor, council, etc.), erects a memorial in the city park that includes a life sized crucifix or monument with Bible verses on it, among other things . . . all paid for by private donations. A few days later you get a letter from the ACLU saying that if you do not remove the life sized crucifix or monument with Bible verses on it, they will sue you and make you pay the Attorney's fees, which could amount to thousands of dollars, which would be VERY costly to the city financially a.k.a the ACLU using the U.S. Court System to do legalized Extortion from local, state, and Federal Governments and private citizens. Now the city has to decide whether to cave to the ACLU or to pay an attorney to fight the ACLU in court and how far to take the case. that actually happened very recently in St. 10 Commandments Monument
Texas Capital Building in Austin, TX
| Bernard Parish (County), Louisiana. Click here to read the Story from FOX 8 WVUE-TV in New Orleans, LA about this example. Scenario Number three. The American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, or another organization in your state, just after World War II, placed a six (6) feet tall Monument in the form of two tablets with the Ten Commandments on it on the lawn of the State Capital Building. A few decades later, the ACLU sues the state and takes the case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court before it is decided. This is what happened to the State of Texas before the U.S. Supreme Court Ruled in favor of the State of Texas and I would not be surprised if Texas ended up spending thousands of dollars of taxpayer funds defending itself against the ACLU Lawsuit. Check out the Big B File from July 4, 2005 for details about this example. Why do I mention all this? The reason is that there are two pieces of Legislation currently working in Congress that would remedy all this these bills are the Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act (HR 235) and the Public Expression of Religion Act of 2005 (HR 2679) {The senate version of this bill is the Public Expressions of Religion Act (PERA) (S. 3696). The only thing that the Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act (HR 235) would do is ". . .amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to protect the religious free exercise and free speech rights of churches and other houses of worship" (courtesy of the website hr235.org).

Mt. Solidad Cross
Mt. Soledad Veterans Mem. La Jolla, CA
|
In other words, remove the restrictions a.k.a. gag orders that have been placed on Houses of Worship since the Johnson Amendment was passed in 1954. The only thing that the Public Expression of Religion Act of 2005 (HR 2679) would do is, as the bill says, "to amend the Revised Statutes of the United States to eliminate the chilling effect on the constitutionally protected expression of religion by State and local officials that results from the threat that potential litigants may seek damages and attorney’s fees." In other words, as Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas says that HR 2679 and SB 3696 would block plaintiffs (Such as The ACLU and others) from collecting attorneys fees for lawsuits alleging "establishment of religion." i.e. erecting a Ten Commandments Monument or anything else religious (Click here to read the entire story from Agape Press). The status of the bills is that they are all stuck in Committeeand that has been the case since they were introduced on JANUARY 4, 2005 (HR 235), MAY 26, 2005 (HR 2679), and JULY 20, 2006 (SB 3696) respectively.Call the Capital Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and tell your Congressman and Senators to pass these bills so that President George W. Bush can sign them into law. I have no doubt at all that Bush will sign these bills into law! I will let you know if HR 235 passes both the House and Senate as well as whether HR 2679 or SB 3696 pass the House and Senate or if these two bills are passed as a combined bill coming out of a House/Senate Conference Committee.

The Abraham Lincoln Presinential Library and Museum Observations & The War On Terror . . .That's the subject of this Big B File.
On July 31st, a number of Parishioners, our pastor, and I went on a parish bus trip to the new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, IL. We went through a number of exhibits including one on the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. In the the exhibit (After viewing a Dress made for Mary Todd Lincoln), was a section of political cartoons about Abraham Lincoln's Presidency and his decision to fight the Civil War in an effort to reunite the country after the Southern States Had seceded from the Union over the issue of slavery. there are a number of Similar comparisons that were made between Lincoln and The Civil War and George W. Bush and the War on Terror (Portion in Iraq). Let me address the Comparisons between the Criticism of the Lincoln and Bush (43) Presidencies first and then address the War comparisons. When Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860, his detractors all said that his presidency wouldn't amount to much of anything or would not amount to anything at all. Does that sound familiar to you? It should. The reason why it should is that basically that same thing was said by George W. Bush's Detractors (of which we can count Illinois Senator Dick Durbin and the American Left among them) after Bush was elected President in the "Hanging Chad" election of 2000. They kept saying the same thing after the the Terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York City and Washington, D.C. and up to this very day and during the Civil War about Abraham Lincoln. Just watch the Ancient Media, formally the Mainstream Media, and read Liberal Blogs, the Democratic Party websites and the Anti-War websites for yourselves for the current versions of the Detractors Rhetoric. the same things were said about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. they all said that the civil War was not winnable and that we should let the Confederacy be and withdraw the troops. they also said that this was not a just war. The same type of rhetoric is being used in relation to George W. Bush and the War on Terror the portion in Iraq Neither War was popular and the Civil War did not end until the Confederacy Surrendered in 1865 and the War on Terror (including Iraq) will not end until Terrorist and the Groups & Nations that support them are defeated permanently. I am not one who wants to have his country to go to war, but I realize that there are times where we as a Free Nation have NO CHOICE but to in order to protect our freedoms and must win. Other than that, The Big B Files Highly recommends that you make a visit to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum spend the day there. The Exhibits and the presentations were awesome and it is worth the trip . . .not to mention that it is one of the best use of taxpayer dollars spent by the State of Illinois and the U.S. Government in a long, long time. You can get details about the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum by going to their website at alplm.org, including admission prices, museum and library hours and more.

The FutureGen Zero-Emmisions Clean Coal Power Plant Selection Process . . .That's the Subject of this Big B File. Early this morning, FutureGen Alliance Officials will announce the short list of Cities that are Eligable to have a brand new, ZERO Emissions Clean Coal Electrical Power Plant. The following twelve cities have submitted proposals to host the plant.
- OHIO
- Meigs County
- Tuscarawas County
This Big B File is primarily about the Illinois Cities in the Running for the plant. Personally, I hope that Effingham is selected as the location of the plant in 2007. Unfortunately, I do not think the plant will be located in Effingham, Mattoon, Tuscola or Marshall or anywhere in Illinois due to the Policies of Rod Blagojevich and his Demorcatic Pals in the General Assembly and Chicago since January 2003. A few examples include:
- Increasing the Minimum Wage from 5.15 to 6.50 per hour.
- Raising taxes by way of eliminating tax Exemptions. This was intended to effect "Big Corporations", but instead affected mainly "Mom and Pop" type of Businesses.
- Increasing fees. see the Big B File from April 2, 2004 for Examples.
I have had a almost impossbile time finding a good paying job to use my Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication Degree in I have been forced to look in areas outside of the State of Illinois for a good paying job. The Job Climate is so bad, coupled with all the new fees imposed on us in the last 3 1/2 years (either directly or by way of the fees imposed on the Cities being passed on us). I hope like crazy that Effingham, IL geta the new FutureGen Power Plant, But the Big B Files believes that it is a huge Longshot at Best. The Big B Files will be very surprised if Effingham, Mattoon, Tuscola or Marshall gets the plant. If all of the Illinois cities are eliminated Tuesday, the Big B Files' suggestion is to blame Governor Rod Blagojevich and the Democrats who have been running Illinois with Liberal Style Politics found in Chicago & California by voting ALL of them out of Office on November 7th.

The Blagojevich attack ads . . . that’s the subject of this Big B File
Recently we all saw TV ads from the Rod R. Blagojevich campaign (via the “Friends of Rod Blagojevich”) attacking Judy Baar Topinka and trying to paint her for being partially, if not totally, responsible for the five billion dollar budget deficit Rod R. Blagojevich inherited when he took office in January 2003. In fact, Judy Baar Topinka, as State Treasurer has nothing to do with the Illinois state budget or for spending taxpayer dollars. Topinka’s duties include investing Illinois taxpayer funds responsibility and hold on to unclaimed funds of people that were sent to the state after these assets and been left in banks, Credit Unions, etc. and had long since forgotten about . . . whether it is the items themselves or the money in lieu of those items . . . which she has done. Why do you think she has been elected three (3) times as state Treasurer? The only office holders who have anything to do with the Illinois state budget and spending Illinois taxpayer funds are the Governor, the General Assembly, and the State Comptroller, who ironically is a fellow Democrat of Rod R. Blagojevich . . . Dan Hynes. The General assembly is currently under the control of the Democrats and Illinois currently has a budget deficit of at least 17.5 Billion Dollars. . . .a result of past bills remaining unpaid and more borrowing by the Administration of Governor Rod R. Blagojevich . . . even after raising taxes by “closing corporate loopholes” a.k.a. tax exemptions.

Illegal immigration . . . that’s the subject of this Big B File.
Courtesy of Michelle Malkin.com We all heard in the media all of these marches where the marchers are demanding that the illegals be made legal among other things. What is not mentioned in the media is the protests are organized in large part by International A.N.S.W.E.R., which has in the past advocated the overthrow of the U.S. Government and replace it with a communist regime like those in China Vietnam, North Korea . . . just go to some of the Communist Countries and see what it is like to live in those countries. I wouldn’t listen to what Hollywood has to say about it if I were you. To me, illegal immigration is like a HUGE slap in the face to all those . . . who . . . went through all the hoops, hurdles, the red tape, etc. to become legalized United States Citizens at a ceremony to take the Oath of Citizenship, surrounded by their families and others, including people who are already U.S. Citizens. It is often said that it is a proud moment for those people, which is being cheapened at the very least by those who come to this country illegally! The Illegals, especially those who marched on May 1st do not think they are criminals. I hate to tell you this illegals, but you already are. You became criminals the moment you crossed the border into this country illegally. That’s what the word illegal means . . . you are breaking the law. I work with someone every morning when I serve mass at the Hospital Chapel who immigrated to this country Legally. It would be as if I went up to an immigrant and slapped them as hard as I can in the face, because that is exactly what the illegal immigration advocates are doing to those who immigrate to this country Legally. And oh, by the way . . . May 1st is commonly known as May Day, a Communist & Marxist Holiday. On May Day, the Communists Regimes parade their armies in front of a reviewing stand located in a common are similar to the Kremlin in order to instill absolute fear in their citizens and hopefully the world as well.

In this edition of the mailbag, I got a comment posted by Calla Lily from San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines in response to the Big B File from Sunday, January 29, 2006 entitled "Palestinian Elections, HAMAS and Ancient U.S. Media". Calla wrote
I am still wondering why can't they just have two separate
states and separate the state of palestines from the israeli,
they have been fighting for years and years that they've already
accept it as a way of life, which is really a sad thing to see.
They just dig deeper and deeper wounds that you dont even know
who is right or wrong anymore. Most of their leaders are being
selfish, not thinking about their children's future, giving only
a heritage of hatred and separation. - Calla Lily San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines All I can say is that All use Holy Scripture as reasons to back up their cases. I would suggest that you go to cbn.com/cbnnews/Israel/ for greater detail on this subject. That Big B File dealt with A terrorist Group coming to power and how the Media (ABC, NBC, CNN, etc.) are trying to put as positive spin on them as they can, as well as showing their Liberal Bias.

Muslims are up in Arms (mostly thanks to an Imam from Denmark who apparently did it for his own self-serving reasons) over a series of cartoons that came out three (3) months BEFORE the mass Protests began around the Muslim world. Look at the cartoons for yourself at michellemalkin.com/archives/004413.htm and make up your own minds about them. As I mentioned on my radio show The Big B Zone Last week, I do not believe that the cartoons themselves sparked the controversy and that something else did. This was based upon that the fact that the Cartoons were published in a Danish newspaper in September 2005 and the controversy did not erupt in the Islamic world until recently . . . three months later. It turns out that this something else was Danish imam Ahmed Akkari, who apparently showed the cartoons (including two that were never published at all and one that was an illustration of someone winning a contest in France with a rubber pig snout on his nose!). I have looked at the cartoons and in some of the cartoons I can understand how Muslims can be offended. I believe it is wrong to desecrate the sacred symbols of one's faith, but all I have to say to those that are participating in these protests is this . . . Get used to it! I am catholic and have had to put up with people (Pretty much on the Ideological Left) for at least the last few decades desecrating and/or defiling the sacred symbols of not only my faith, but Christians as a whole. Just today, A Magazine out of Poland placed on the cover of its newest issue a picture of the much-revered icon of The Holy Icon of Our Blessed Mother of Jasna Góra, (better known as the Black Madonna) with pop icon Madonna's face transposed onto it and the face of one of her kids superimposed over the face of the baby Jesus. You can see the magazine Cover and the actual The Holy Icon of Our Blessed Mother of Jasna Góra below:

Magazine Cover (Left) and The Holy Icon of Our Blessed Mother of Jasna Góra (Right)
As a Catholic, of course I am Mad, I am using this commentary and my radio show to protest the desecrating of the Icon by the Polish Magazine. And others are applying as much negative pressure as we can to get an apology, retraction and/or to get them to never do it again. But . . . WE NEVER RESORT TO VIOLENCE nor EVER THREATEN the lives of the People who desecrate and/or defiling the sacred symbols of the Catholic faith and all or Christianity. Other Examples include a Crucifix in a jar of urine, Ripping up of a photograph of Pope John Paul II by a former rock artist LIVE on Saturday Night Live in the Late 1980's or Early 1990's, The Terrorists who desecrated the Church of the Nativity in Jerusalem last year, an artist at the National Black Fine Art Show in New York City that depicts an upside down Christ like figure with a face strongly resembling Osama Bin Laden, and Rolling Stone is printing a magazine with Kanye West as a black Jesus on the cover.
We Christians & Catholics have had to put up with for years . . . so GET USED TO IT AND PROTEST IT USING NONVIOLENT MEANS! I have a feeling this won't be the last time that something published about Islam will offend Muslims. That's the Big B File. You're Not Going To Like The Prediction! Punxsutawney Phil
Courtesy of the Punxsutawney , PA GroundHog Club
Punxsutawney Phil made his prediction known this morning. . . .Darn it (see below:
Phil's official forecast as read 2/2/06 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob: It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Around the country there are many imitators of me. In Harrisburg there is Gus who appears on TV working for the lottery. Then all around town, Cute groundhog statues abound. They all look like me, I found. Today on the Knob as I'm doing my job, I don't like this likeness of me. It's my shadow I see. Six more weeks of mild winter there will be.

| This Big B File is an update on an open letter to an old Friend back in March of 2005. Janet Koziol was a former Freelance Television News Reporter for KSHB-TV NBC Action News in Kansas City MO/KS Metropolitan area. Janet had recently given birth to a Child and her husband is Russ. All this information is as of Early 2004 and I have no Idea of where she is. Dear Janet, I miss you, my very, very good friend. In the almost two years since we last chatted via phone, much has happened in my life, as I am sure it has in yours as well. When we last chatted on the phone (me from home and you from KSHB), you had at that time recently given birth to your first child and you were doing freelance work for NBC Action News. | | | | | | From Her Days at WMTV-TV NBC 15 in Madison, WI. | | | | Since then, I have been trying to locate you so that I can catch up on how things have been going for us. So much has occurred since we last chatted and I had great news for you that can only be told over the phone or in person. The picture of you (on the right) is from your days at WMTV-TV NBC 15 in Madison, Wisconsin. I do not know if I ever told you this, but I am glad that you and Russ brought life into this world, especially in the culture that we have been living in for the past 20 years (which is most of both of our lives). The parish of my childhood, St. Mary of the Assumption in Neoga (IL), has a tradition that after a newborn child is baptized where the parents are given a rose as a way of saying thanks for giving birth to their child. What would I give to be able to do the same thing to you. We first met when you did a story about me having Tourette's Syndrome, being a student in the Radio-TV Program at Lake Land College in Mattoon (IL), and a student at the College Radio Station WLKL-FM 89.9 (now 89.9 The Max). Ken Beno, the General Manager of WLKL, told me that you wanted to do the story about me for Mid-Illinois News Scan (now WEIU-TV News Watch). After talking it over with Ken, I decided to agree to be interviewed by you for the story. During the interview, I uttered the Phrase that has stuck in my mind ever since which is "the DJ Priest". How could either one of us have known at the time of that interview and resulting news story that we would be great friends all the years later. It was not until a few years later that I thought about once again. After doing research on a thing that was new at the time called the Internet, I found you at WGBA-TV NBC 26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin (where you were a reporter at the time). It was also the last time that I saw you in person. During the Day that I spent with you at NBC 26, one story that you covered was of a former police officer who was brought back to Green Bay to stand Trial for Murder. It was also the last day for the Photographer [that you had worked with so long, who was moving to a larger market in Wisconsin (I believe that it was Milwaukee, WI). You suggested to me at one point that I decide between pursuing a career in Broadcasting and the Religious Life. Well…I have taken your advice to heart and have finally decided to become a priest for the Catholic Church. I have been going through the Discernment Process for the last three years (since 2002). It has been far from a simple process. I have inquired with a number of Religious Orders and have not gone beyond the Inquiry phase by a good portion (but not all) for the same reason. I have been assisted a great deal by Fr. John Titus, Vocations Director for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, among others. By the Way …how prophetic you were at the time! Then you moved to Madison, WI and became the Morning Show Anchor for NBC 15 in Madison, WI. While you were there, you married the love of your life, Russ Koziol. A cousin of his, who happened to be a Catholic Priest, was the one who performed the Wedding. I emailed you on your last day in Madison, WI before you and Russ moved to Kansas City, where Russ had a new job awaiting him. After looking for a Broadcasting Job for yourself, you landed a job at KSHB-TV NBC 41 (now NBC Action News). You worked there on a part-time basis for 8 months before you were promoted to a full-time Reporter position there at KSHB. After you had been there for a few years, you went from being a full-time report for them, then working for NBC Action News as a Freelance Reporter, and the left the station altogether. And that is the last time I talked to you in person or via the telephone and/or email. If you see this, please call me or see me so that we can catch up on what has been going on with the both of us since the early part of this Century. My contact information can be found on my Resume, which is located on my personal website, Big B Online. You can also hear what I thing about the issues of the day by going the official website for my radio Program, The Big B Zone, Which can be heard Fridays from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Central Time. I have also been Serving Mass at the Hospital Chapel in Effingham, IL on the weekdays, coordinating the Sunday 10:30am mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon, IL, and Volunteering for WEIL-LP in Effingham, IL, etc. (see my my Resume on Big B Online. This Past Thursday Night, I sat in my bedroom at my parents’ home near Neoga, IL watching ABC singing the paraises of terrorists in the Palestinian Territories and doing their absolute best to humanize the same terrorists while making the nation of Israel out to be the essence of pure evil, like Isreal brought the terrorism upon themselves. They also were doing their absolute best to make the terrorists from HAMAS, and others (including those members who are in Israeli prisons) who have killed innocent people just because of their faith "freedom fighters". At one point, they showed one of the terrorists watching his family on Palestinian TV talking positively about him, praising him as a hero...as a hero!
What ABC does not tell you is what is normally shown on Palestinian Television is pure hatred of Christians & Jews and the State of Israel, Go to the Palestinian Media Watch website at www.pmw.org.il to see for yourself. They even have Television Broadcasts & cartoons glorifying and praising Homicide Bombers and that it is a very high honor for someone to strap explosives to themselves and blow innnocent people to kingdom come. ABC tried to show that Hamas is not a terrorist Group and humanize them by bringing one of the most senior members of HAMAS on the Nightline Broadcast. The HAMAS Member instead showed the Terrorist Group’s True Colors. Just another Example of why ABC and the rest of the Ancient Liberal Media are losing Viewers and listeners by the bucketful!

This Big B File is about Comrade Durbin making comments comparing our fighting men and women and American interrogators at Guantanamo Bay to Nazis, Soviet gulags and Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot.
On June 14th, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin made comments comparing our fighting men and women and American interrogators at Guantanamo Bay to Nazi Concentration Camps like Auschwitz, Soviet gulags under Joseph Stalin and Cambodian Killing Fields under Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot. Here is the Actual Statement ( click here to hear it):
|
"If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others -- that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners" |
| |
- Illinois Senator Dick Durbin |
Let's analyze this statement. He said that Guantanamo Bay is the same as Nazi Concentration Camps like Auschwitz. What!?! Does Durbin mean to say that our Fighting Men and Women at Guantamo Bay are treating prisoners a.k.a. terrorists in the exact same manner as Nazi Concentration Camps like Auschwitz…where SIX MILLION PEOPLE (mostly Jews) were gassed with a gas called Zyklon B , which as former SS physician Dr. Hans Munch says that he "witnessed the dropping of Zyklon B into simulated exhaust vents from outside the gas chamber. Zyklon B began to work as soon as it was released from the canisters. The effects of the gas were observed through a peephole by an assigned doctor or the SS officer on duty. After three to five minutes, death could be certified, and the doors were opened as a sign that the corpses were cleared to be burned." Dr. Munch said that six million people were killed for no other reason than that "anyone who did not fit Hitler's idea of a pure Aryan race." (You can read more by clicking here)? Does Durbin mean to say that our Fighting Men and Women at Guantamo Bay are treating prisoners a.k.a. terrorists in the exact same manner as the Soviet gulags under Joseph Stalin. Dick Durbin, OVER 25 MILLION PEOPLE were killed in the Soviet Gulags were killed simply because they either disagreed with Stalin's Policies or just simply opposed him? Does Durbin mean to say that our Fighting Men and Women at Guantamo Bay are treating prisoners a.k.a. terrorists in the same manner as Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot. He killed 2 Million Cambodians in the Cambodian Killing Fields? In all, 33 MILLION PEOPLE were killed simply because they either did not fit the mold of or simply opposed these repressive regimes…33 MILLION! Not a word about Durbin's Comments from his fellow democrats…Not a word. Web Blogger Dave Logan called a few of Dick Durbin's Democratic Colleagues. Senator Ted Kennedy's office said that they were "Not quite sure, I'll have to check on that." Senator Joe Lieberman's office said that "Mr. Lieberman has no comment at all." 2004 Democratic Presidential Nominee Senator John Kerry's office said that "Sen. Kerry doesn't have a position on Sen. Durbin's comments." Oh Really? A number of people, including myself, took Dick Durbin's Despicable Comments Personally. We took them personally because either we have served in a military conflict, are currently serving in conflicts like Iraq & Afghanistan, or (as it is in my case) we have a relative, sibling and/or friend serving in Iraq right now. For the same reasons above groups like the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) were so incensed over Durbin's Comments and took them personally. Senator Durbin issued his Non-Apology Apology on the Senate Floor on Tuesday June 21st…this after he said to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch " I'm certainly not going to be intimidated by the right-wing message machine. If I'm going to back off every time they decide their unhappy with my statements, then I really won't be doing my job. Never has he taken back his words…never! Color me fickle, but in a normal apology, don't you take back your words or regret saying them in the first place by saying something like "I regret saying…", "I was out of line…", "I wish I hadn't said…", "I would give anything to take back those words." | |
