Party hearty in style with our top 5 men's shirts!?!
Posted on Tuesday 2 December 2008 at 10:35 PM in Trends
With December now upon us, the Christmas party season is now in full swing!?! As most people seem to have at least one party to attend over the festive period, here at Fashicon we decided to take a closer look at the range of men’s shirts currently available on the market. So take a sneaky peek at the list below and party hearty in style!?!
1. If you’re heading off to an evening celebration or going pubbing and clubbing – dark colours always work well. Teaming a slim fitted shirt with a tone on tone tie will bring you bang on this season’s hottest trend, as long as you make sure the tie is fashionably narrow too. The Daniel shirt by Junk de Luxe is a great example of this look, and the shirt comes with a matching tie so saving you time and effort!?!
2. Short sleeve shirts have come a long way in terms of fashion and we’re now thankfully starting to see some more wearable short sleeved shirts on the market. Previous designs have been ill fitting and only available in unflattering colours and patterns, but this season has bought us more tailored looks and stylish designs. Our favourite pick for the party season is the Ashcroft shirt by Farah Vintage – a classic design which has been brought right up to date with the fine check detail.
3. If you’re looking for a shirt with a sense of humour and style – check out the Chase shirt by Modern Amusement. This long sleeve classic white shirt has been given a cheeky makeover with a greyhound print that is really only noticeable at close quarters. A far better choice than going down the novelty shirt route – to watch cartoons is one thing, to advertise them on your shirt is quite another!?!
4. If your Christmas party is a less formal affair, a classic polo shirt teamed with a stylish pair of jeans is always a good choice. Make sure you choose a quality polo shirt though otherwise you run the risk of looking like you’ve made no effort at all!?! The Watkins polo shirt by Fila Gold fits the bill perfectly – made from 100% merino wool and with contrast detailing it screams quality and effort!!
5. This season checks are hot and a carefully selected checked shirt will bring your wardrobe bang up to date in an instant!!?! The Loggor shirt by Aem’kei will look great teamed with either jeans or trousers and will give you instant suaveness without looking like you’ve tried too hard!?!
Ultimately, it will remain up to you just which of this seasons shirts will suit your sense of style, and as long as you avoid the cardinal sin of wearing your shirt open to the naval with a shiny gold medallion you shouldn’t go far wrong!?!?
Here at Fashicon we have carefully selected our shirts to bring you the best mix of the latest trends to ensure you always make a good impression!! Why not take a look at our website at www.fashicon.co.uk – medallion man need not apply!?!?

Calvin Klein - a great pair of under crackers?!?
Posted on Tuesday 2 December 2008 at 10:34 PM in Brands
If you stop anyone on the street and ask them to name a designer underwear brand, chances are they’ll name Calvin Klein. The brand has a loyal following of fans that are particularly drawn to the funky yet comfy underwear, and with cutting edge designs and superior quality it’s easy to see why Calvin Klein has the ability to spark off trends.
For years, Calvin Klein underwear has been the most revered and sought after brand in men’s fashion, so here at Fashicon we decided to find out why.
After over 25 years at the top of the men’s underwear market Calvin Klein must be doing something right!! Since its inception, Calvin Klein underwear has led the market by offering cutting edge designs, innovative fabrics and exceptional fit. The brand is synonymous with quality and now reaches 21 countries and an estimated 98 million people globally!?!
Calvin Klein himself best summed up the underwear range when he said ‘we made underwear sexy and something fun for everyone to enjoy’.
What you wear under your clothes has now become just as important as any other part of your wardrobe, and sadly those old faithful and familiar grey pants will just no longer do!!! Underwear is probably the single most functional garment you wear, and one of the most important factors in whether you feel comfortable in your clothes. It’s the closest thing to your skin, and when you’re wearing attractive underwear, you walk differently and even feel sexier!!!
The world of men’s underwear has come a long way in recent years, and today you can find contemporary styles offering both comfort and fit to suit even the most discriminating of tastes. Every man should own at least one pair of Calvin Klein pants as the quality and design is unrivalled by anything else we could find on the market!?!
Why not take a look at our website at www.fashicon.co.uk and let us know what you think – does Calvin Klein make the best under crackers on the market?!?
To scarf or not to scarf that is the question!?!
Posted on Thursday 27 November 2008 at 9:57 PM in Trends
The humble scarf is now very quickly becoming the new must have fashion accessory for men. Once only worn by the likes of Dr Who and Rupert Bear, this season has seen the scarf explode onto the fashion market in a big way!!! Like every new trend though – get it wrong and you’ll end up looking like a fashion criminal or worse still - like you’re wearing something from the local jumble sale!?!?
So what does a good scarf need to have?
1. Firstly, make sure your scarf has a bit of substance and bulk to it, otherwise it will look like you’re wearing a length of toilet paper around your neck!?! Make sure you don’t go too bulky though as you don’t want to look like you’re wearing a neck brace!!!
2. Remember in the case of a scarf – size matters!!! You should be able to wrap a scarf around your neck and still have the ends hanging somewhere close to mid chest height. Don’t go too overboard on the length though; otherwise you’ll end up looking more like Tom Baker in Dr Who!??!
3. A scarf is a great way to add some colour to your outfit, especially if your coat has to be a dark colour for work. The key word here is ‘some’ though, as its best not to try and represent every colour in the rainbow!?!
The fashion trend for scarves is definitely something everyone can invest in as it’s a great way to add a little personality to your outfit. Choosing the right scarf for you needn’t be complicated, and if you pick something that fits the rest of your wardrobe and suits your sense of style – you can’t go far wrong!?!
If you need some inspiration, why not take a look at our website at www.fashicon.co.uk and join in with this season’s easiest fashion trend!?!

Introducing the more whimsical side of Modern Amusement!?!
Posted on Monday 24 November 2008 at 9:56 PM in Brands
Modern Amusement burst onto the fashion scene in 1995 and very quickly established a loyal following of fans that were drawn to the funky and modern brand. With cutting edge designs and attention to detail prevalent in each new collection it is easy to see why Modern Amusement has the ability to spark off trends.
All designs by Modern Amusement feature the distinctive black crow logo which defines the brand and sets it apart from other labels. Each new collection continues to offer fresh designs, bold colours and great fitting clothes with a new story being written every season. Modern Amusement continues to evolve and so manages to keep the fresh and innovative feel which is paramount to the brand.
The new autumn/winter collection for 2008 continues to mix cutting edge fashion with some more serene design basics. Bold t-shirts mingle alongside tailored shirts and slim fitting knitwear, while a new line of accessories really steal the show.
A firm favourite from the collection is the crew neck Skull T-Shirt – paying homage to the darker side of fashion!?! The skull motif is no longer just reserved for pirates and bikers, and this t-shirt will be one of the hottest picks as the skull is set to become the fashion symbol of the season!?!?
Here at Fashicon we stock the very best of the new collection by Modern Amusement, and for a limited period only we are offering a huge 25% discount on all items in the range!!! So, if you fancy a walk on the whimsical side – why not take a look at our website at www.fashicon.co.uk
The Christmas jumper is back with a vengeance!?!
Posted on Thursday 20 November 2008 at 11:29 PM in Trends
Think of the traditional Christmas jumper and you conjure up images of the family get together on Christmas Day, inebriated ‘Uncle Gerald’ telling his fascinating stories for the umpteenth time, and whole families sat around the tree in a collection of itchy woollies knitted by Nana all bearing frightening motifs of Christmas trees, reindeer and snow men!?!
This season Christmas knitwear is seriously cool - so check out our top picks below to make sure you avoid the heinous crime that is the Christmas jumper!?!?
V neck jumpers are everywhere at the moment and the colour of the season seems to be grey. The v-neck is a hugely versatile piece of clothing and can even be worn to work if you choose the right colour. The Norman jumper by Junk de Luxe is a fantastic example of this and really highlights the attention to detail designers use in their knitwear. The jumper features contrast detailing throughout and will fit nicely under a coat when you have to brave the frosty mornings to de-ice the car!?!?
It’s official – cardigans are trendy again!?! The geography teacher cardigan with the leather elbow patches is thankfully resigned to the past, and this season brings us a huge selection of slim fitting designs in luxury wools. Modern Amusement has launched a great collection of knitwear that would look fantastic with just a simple pair of jeans.
Knitwear has certainly come a long way in recent years and the key is to invest in a couple of quality pieces that the masses haven’t all nipped out to buy in their lunch hour!?!? So where can you find this great knitwear – Fashicon of course!?! Check out our website at www.fashicon.co.uk where you’ll find all the very latest designs for your viewing pleasure!?!

Dress to impress with a t-shirt?!?!
Posted on Monday 17 November 2008 at 11:27 PM in Brands
It’s not often that a piece of underwear makes its way into the public domain, let alone takes on an almost legendary status like that of the trend setting t-shirt. So, where exactly did the t-shirt appear from?
Believe it or not, a similar t-shirt like garment can be traced back to Roman times, and clear depictions of this tunic have been found in stone carvings dating back to 3000BC, but it was during World War II that the t-shirt design we all know and love today really came into its own!!!
Millions of soldiers were issued with their standard kit, and propaganda shots began to emerge of the GI’s fighting, working and playing wearing t-shirts. The once hidden garment was slowly coming out of the closet although it was still considered as underwear in polite society – until Hollywood stepped in!!!
In 1951, Marlon Brando starred in the film ‘A streetcar named desire’ and the image of him wearing a t-shirt became an overnight sensation. Add to that the iconic image of James Dean in ‘Rebel without a cause’ and Elvis Presley jumping on the t-shirt band wagon meant that this previously hidden garment would never be hidden again!?!
A good t-shirt can make you look and feel amazing, but beware – nothing makes you look like a nerd as much as a bad t-shirt, especially a bad novelty t-shirt!?! Wearing a quality t-shirt can lift your whole look and people won’t even notice if your jeans are more Primark than Prada!?! The key to investing in a quality t-shirt is to choose something you can wear all year round, and don’t buy too many either – that way your designer purchase will always feel a little special when you put it on and you will feel amazing when wearing it!!!
Our favourite t-shirts at the moment are by Proper English. The new autumn/winter designs feature colourful graphics with a hint of vintage that will keep your style looking modern and up to date. Proper English t-shirts are anything but, and with their tongue in cheek designs they are perfect for anyone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously!?!
Here at Fashicon we stock the very best t-shirt designs by Proper English. So, if you fancy a walk on the mischievous side – why not take a look at our website at www.fashicon.co.uk
The top 5 winter fashion tips every man should know!?!
Posted on Monday 10 November 2008 at 10:12 PM in Latest News
With the cold weather now well and truly here to stay for the foreseeable future, it’s all too easy to fall into the fashion comfort trap!!! Digging out last year’s winter clothes from the depths of the wardrobe may be tempting, but they will make you more of a fashion victim than a fashion icon!!! With just a small amount of effort it’s easier than you think to jazz up your wardrobe, and by adding a couple of the latest key pieces no one will ever know that the majority of your clothing is more vintage than they suspect!?!
1. They were barely noticeable last winter, but this season they are impossible to miss as checks are everywhere!!! The lumberjack look is big news and although you wouldn’t want to wear checks from head to toe – a carefully selected checked shirt can bring your wardrobe bang up to date in an instant!!
2. This season promises to be a year when coats will shine in a variety of styles and shapes. A stylish coat is a fashion essential as its one of the first things people will see when you walk through a door. Splurging on one quality coat or jacket for the winter is always worthwhile as it will be worn almost daily and can make less expensive clothes look better designed!!?
3. After you’ve invested in a good quality coat or jacket – why go and ruin it all when it rains?!? Choosing an umbrella may not seem like an important decision, but a poorly chosen umbrella can scream fashion victim in neon letters if you’re not careful!?! Using the free golfing umbrella given away by the local insurance company just makes you look cheap, while resorting to using your girlfriends handbag umbrella just makes you look like you’re holding a cocktail parasol!?! A good quality black umbrella will see you through every situation and keep you dry to boot!?!
4. Knitwear has come a long way since the Val Doonican cardigan and for this winter – knitwear is a must!!! The V in v-neck jumper should stand for versatile as if you get any knitwear this season – invest in a v-neck jumper. Whether you wear it on its own or layer it with a shirt or t-shirt underneath – the v-neck jumper never fails to make a good impression!?!
5. Finally, the best fashion tip any man can have is to always dress to suit your personality. If you are happiest wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, then dressing up in the latest hot trend to impress others will just make you look uncomfortable!? Always choose clothes that suit you first and you’ll be surprised just how good a simple t-shirt and jeans can look if you pick carefully and feel confident in what you’re wearing!?!
Here at Fashicon we have the very latest menswear designs for you to choose from. Everything we stock has been carefully selected to bring you the best mix of the latest trends to ensure you always make a good impression!! Why not take a look at our website at www.fashicon.co.uk and see which designs suit your style!?!
The spotlight turns gold on Fila!?!
Posted on Monday 10 November 2008 at 10:11 PM in Brands
Everyone has heard of the iconic sportswear brand of Fila, but have you been introduced to the more fashion inspired element of the Fila group – the Fila Gold Collection??
Fila Gold was launched in the UK last year, after previously only being available in Italy. The collection offers a range of smart casual clothing inspired by the seventies, and shows how retro sportswear has evolved into contemporary fashion for the modern lifestyle. Attention to detail remains paramount, with subtle touches added to combine style and luxury whilst remaining true to the Fila heritage.
All clothing within the Fila Gold Collection features a new bespoke gold logo badge, customised buttons and trim detailing - all offered in a simple colour pallet with the odd burst of boldness.
The new autumn/winter collection for 2008 continues to bring a more directional edge to sports fashion, and features a colour palette of greys and charcoal black, combined with a sprinkling of seasonal colours such as snorkel blue and pillar box red. Luxury fabrics like cashmere and merino wool have been incorporated into sleek silhouettes such as tailored polo shirts and slim fitting cardigans, which are offered alongside more fashion forward jackets.
A firm favourite from the new collection is the slim fit Watkins polo shirt – paying homage to the glory days of the seventies it is the ultimate in playboy styling!?! The striking colour palette is combined with a fine merino wool knit, making the Watkins polo a fashion essential for the man about town!!
Here at Fashicon we stock the very best of the new Fila Gold Collection. So, if you fancy Italian styling fused with a modern twist – why not take a look at our website at www.fashicon.co.uk
Zippy and knitty accessories!?!?
Posted on Monday 3 November 2008 at 10:37 PM in Latest News
Have you ever felt that your outfit is missing something? While shirts and trousers work fine, sometimes a little something extra is needed to really complete the look. This season there is an abundance of extras available, such as knitwear and bags, which will really help personalise your look and give your outfit that extra injection of style!!!!
Knitwear has come a long way since the days of the Val Doonican cardigan, and for this season knitwear is most definitely in. For most of us, looking smart at work is essential and greys, browns and blacks are a good choice for the workplace, and light knits in these colours can create office wear with a modern twist!!!
If you want to inject some colour into your wardrobe, you’re in luck – this season has brought us some really distinctive jumpers and cardigans which will be sure to add a splash of colour to any outfit. Designers pay particular attention to detail where knitwear is concerned, so investing in one or two key pieces of knitwear will not only keep you warm but also see you through the dreary winter months without compromising on style!!!
No outfit is complete without accessories and they can really make or break your look. The much maligned ‘man bag’ has now had a serious upgrade and is fast becoming the latest fashion phenomenon!!! The bags are both practical and stylish, and are the perfect finish to any outfit. You can even use them for work and add a bit of ‘yoof’ to the office commute by using a messenger or record bag!!!
Here at Fashicon we have the very latest trends in knitwear and bags for you to choose from – why not take a look at our website at www.fashicon.co.uk and see which design suits your style!!!
The Harrington G9 - surely both Oasis and James Bond can't be wrong!?!
Posted on Monday 3 November 2008 at 10:36 PM in Trends
What have Oasis and James Bond got in common? Well, both Liam Gallagher and Daniel Craig both love wearing the legendary Harrington G9 jacket from Baracuta of course!?!?
Baracuta jackets have become one of the most recognised jackets of all time. Since the original rainproof coat was designed in 1937, the original Harrington G9 jacket has obtained legendary status after being worn by everybody from Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra to James Bond (well Daniel Craig anyway!!!)
As all Oasis fans will know, the band are currently on tour throughout the UK, and Baracuta have got together with Oasis to design and supply their official tour jackets. The limited edition jacket is based on the original Harrington G9 design, and unfortunately is only available at tour venues!!!
Never fear, the original G9 jacket is still as stylish and functional as ever – and more importantly available!!! There have been many copies over the years so don’t be fooled by inferior imitations and insist on the best - Baracuta made the original Harrington G9 a big hit back in the thirties and it’s still going strong today!!!
Now over 70 years on from the launch of the original jacket – Baracuta is still a red hot fashion brand!!! We are very proud to stock this famous jacket at Fashicon, so check out our website at www.fashicon.co.uk and see what you think – surely both James Bond and Oasis can’t be wrong?!?!

Quantum of Fashicon!!!!
Posted on Wednesday 29 October 2008 at 12:32 AM in Latest News
Friday 31st October 2008 sees the release of the latest James Bond movie – Quantum of Solace. To get everyone in the mood for all things 007 we have compiled a few interesting titbits of trivia about the new film?!?
The pre-production work for this film actually began before Casino Royale (2006) started filming.
Daniel Craig felt Casino Royale (2006) was physically "a walk in the park" compared to this film; his training was extremely intense, involving more boxing, running, speed boating and stunt driving. He was injured three times in the making of this film.
This is the first time that an official James Bond movie title song has been sung by two artists as a duet. The theme is called 'Another Way to Die' and is sung by Jack White and Alicia Keys. They were officially announced to be performing the song on 29th July 2008.
The movie will be released worldwide in 2008 which would have been the 100th birthday year of James Bond creator Ian Fleming.
According to the short story, the Quantum of Solace is defined as "a precise figure defining the comfort/humanity/fellow feeling required between any pair of people for love to survive. If the Quantum of Solace is zero, then love is dead."
Real life intelligence delegates acted as on set consultants for the movie, including spies and assassins from MI6 and the Israeli Secret Service.
The James Bond character is depicted as a suave yet professional secret agent who also doubles as an assassin. Whatever situation he finds himself in, you can guarantee he will always look immaculately dressed!!?! If you too want to be flawlessly turned out but don’t have a James Bond budget to spend – why not check out our website at www.fashicon.co.uk. Everything we sell has been carefully selected to bring you the best mix of the latest trends to ensure you always make a good impression!!!

The fashion that time forgot!??!
Posted on Monday 13 October 2008 at 11:16 PM in Trends
With the current trend for retro fashion riding high, many old favourites such as windbreakers and track jackets are many a comeback. While some trends tend to resurface every once in a while, there are definitely some looks that should NEVER see the light of day again!!!
Many of us will have some of these fashion monstrosities lurking in the back of our wardrobe so, if you’re still holding on to that Michael Jackson glove in the hope it may make a comeback in the near future – it’s time to admit defeat and let it go!!! While we’re on the subject, here are a few other old school fashion memories that should also be resigned to the charity shop as a matter of urgency!!!!
Cowboy Ties. Far worse than the clip on, the cowboy tie was distinguished by its ranch inspired metal star with a simple leather strap looped through it. All the rage in the mid eighties they were donned by young and old alike and were literally everywhere you looked. No party outfit was truly complete without the compulsory cowboy tie!!!
Coloured jeans. The eighties and nineties saw a multitude of horrifying jeans trends. After the craze of acid wash denim had thankfully died a death, we were hit with coloured jeans!!! They came in a multitude of colours and, despite the apparent practicality of having jeans in a variety of different shades; they were actually so atrocious they overpowered everything and matched with nothing in your wardrobe!?!?
Perhaps the biggest fashion crime ever committed was the shell suit, and it will be forever in our history to remind us of our insanity!!! Shell suits were everywhere during the eighties and were considered the essence of chic!!! Of all the things to hate about shell suits, the most inexplicable was the fact the gaudier and uglier they were, the more coveted they would become!!! We were a nation of lunatics, all competing to own the ugliest shell suit in the land – what happened to us?!?!
Thank goodness those trends are gone for good – fingers crossed!!! If you like the idea of retro fashion but would prefer not to be the laughing stock of the town when you go out – check out our website at www.fashicon.co.uk for some ideas. Everything we sell has been carefully selected to bring you the best mix of the latest trends to ensure you always make a good impression, whether you’re going smart of casual!!!!
Retro fashion with a twist!?!?
Posted on Monday 13 October 2008 at 11:15 PM in Brands
Thinking of the Pac a Mac conjures up images from the seventies of whole families wearing matching cagoules as they enjoy the good old British weather on a trip to the seaside!?!? Not exactly cutting edge fashion - or is it??!
The Pac a Mac, like many other retro fashions, is making a comeback and has risen like a phoenix from the flames and become the new cult phenomenon!!! K-Way has made this legendary windbreaker jacket for decades, but the new and updated version of the jacket has considerable upgrades and improvements. The cut and the style have been trimmed, all hem and zipper detailing improved, and using a higher quality fabric has made this jacket a real design hit all over again. Like the original, the new style jacket is available in a range of candy colours and they all pack up into a cool little bag with a belt!?
A true Pac a Mac is timeless, and like a white t-shirt and blue jeans will be around forever!!! Don’t be fooled by inferior imitations and insist on the best – K-Way made the original Pac a Mac a big hit back in the sixties and it’s still going strong today!!!
Why not check out our website at www.fashicon.co.uk and see the very latest designs by K-Way and let us know what you think?!?
Cagoules for a new generation!?!?
Posted on Monday 13 October 2008 at 11:14 PM in Brands
We are very pleased to announce that Fashicon is now an official stockist of the highly distinctive and renowned K-Way jacket!!! Retro fashion has made a comeback in a big way and given the humble Pac a Mac a new lease of life!!!
K-Way was born one rainy day in Paris during 1965 when Leon-Claude Duhamel had an idea. After watching people rushing by in soaking wet clothes he designed the first windbreaker jacket. Made of nylon, lightweight and completely waterproof the new jacket could be folded away into a small pocket and then tied around the waist. The revolutionary new jacket was an instant hit and people happily swapped their old umbrella for the Pac a Mac with enthusiasm.
In January 1992, a fire swept through the K-Way emporium and devastated the company. Only the indestructible fighting spirit of the brand survived which helped the company to regroup and go on to become the official supplier of the Winter Olympics in 1992.
Now over 40 years on from the launch of the original jacket – the K-Way Pac a Mac is still as stylish and functional as ever. Today the French brand is as red hot as any fashion brand in the UK and is perfect for festivals, barbeques, sporting events and anywhere you can expect rain really!?!?
Check out our website at www.fashicon.co.uk to see this retro jacket in its full glory!!!!
