Superintendent Cedric Train, Makati police playground equipment chief, said one of the suspects who escaped was wounded during the shootout.

“We are conducting investigation as to the identity of the suspect. I am confident that we could easily identify what criminal group they belong. There is only one killed but we believe that there is another one wounded among the six suspects,” he said.

Stephanie Shier, manager of a clothing store nearby, said she saw several men wearing black Bomb Squad uniforms hammering the glass display cabinets of the Rolex store.

“We just saw some armed men, they were wearing Bomb Squad uniforms… and they started hammering the showcases. And from there, I and some customers went inside the stockroom and afterward we heard gunshots for about five minutes,” Shier said.

Shier added the suspects even dragged a man and a pregnant woman out of the store before they started breaking the glass cabinets.

Mayor Tinga, for his part, said he was inflatable bouncers having a luncheon meeting when he heard gunshots ring out.

“I was in a luncheon meeting when we heard gunshots outside, I didn’t know that my two escorts were shooting it out with those robbers. My escorts were only armed with handguns but they bravely faced the robbers who had long firearms,” Tinga said.

Tinga said he would recommend the promotion of Tiglao and Ceniza for their effort.

Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay said the foiled robbery attempt underscored the need for more security preparation.

“The brazenness of the act is alarming. I swing machines suggest that the proper authorities should anticipate a possible surge in brazen and high profile criminal activities,” he said.

Binay also noted the long firearms used by the suspects, which he said, indicated the failure of security forces to restrict their sale and distribution.

Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Jaime Calungsod ordered a review of the security measures implemented inside the mall.

Calungsod said they are now reviewing the game machines video of the closed circuit television cameras of the mall to determine how the heavily armed suspects were allowed inside the mall.

“The mall management must review their security arrangements as they are not fool-proof as shown by the latest incident,” a top police official said.

Though the police have yet to identify the group behind the foiled robbery attempt, several investigators pointed out the method is similar to that of the Alvin Flores robbery gang which also uses police disguise.

The NCRPO said the Alvin Flores gang is behind the robbery of the Waltermart shopping mall in Quezon City, and another store in leisure chairs Malate, Manila.

The same group also robbed a cell phone display store in Pasig City last week.

Rosales called on shopping mall owners and other business establishments in Metro Manila to implement stricter security measures by not allowing heavily armed police officers inside unless accompanied by a marked police patrol car

Nilo said Ramil slowed down yesterday due to the presence of two weather systems, namely a high pressure area (HPA) off Taiwan and a trough positioned north of the typhoon.

A trough is an extended area of relatively pearl jewelry lower atmospheric pressure. It can be the extension of a cyclone. It is the opposite of ridge and generally is associated with severe weather.

Ridge, on the other hand, is an elongated area of relatively high atmospheric pressure. Strong ridges are accompanied by warm and dry pearl jewelry wholesale weather conditions at the surface.

Nilo said Ramil might yet spare the country and head for Taiwan.

“But there is a very slim chance that it will not hit the country,” said Nilo.

“If the trough will stay in its current position – which is north of Ramil, it will likely allow the typhoon to move north and spare the country,” Nilo told reporters.

“The trough, which is currently more dominant than the HPA, will give Ramil the space to move northward,” he said.

But if the trough would move toward the freshwater pearl east, it might be replaced by a high pressure area that could block Ramil’s way toward the north and instead force it to move westward and hit extreme northern Luzon.

Pepeng, which entered the country early this month, remained stationary over northern Luzon for almost five days due to its interaction with typhoon “Quedan” and a high pressure area off Hong Kong.

Pepeng lingered for over a week in various parts of the country but it hovered over Pangasinan on Oct. 9 – the day when most of the flooding happened.

Even the Nueva Ecija area, which was not as affected as Pangasinan, also had around 200 to 300 millimeters of rain during this period.

“But, strong winds and heavy rains could cultured pearl already be experienced in these areas starting Wednesday morning,” he said.

Pagasa deputy administrator Nathaniel Cruz said Ramil would not affect the country for the next 36 hours.

He, however, said the intertropical convergence zone would bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Southern Luzon and the Visayas in the next three days.

Nilo said that even if Ramil would not freshwater pearl jewlelry pass near Metro Manila, it would still experience light rain showers when the typhoon hits Northern Luzon.

He said moderate to rough seas would prevail over the eastern sections of Luzon and the Visayas.

Nilo said that in terms of wind intensity, Ramil could be stronger than Pepeng that killed hundreds of people in northern and central Luzon.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the eye of the storm was located at 1,150 kilometers east southeast of Aparri, Cagayan with maximum sustained pearl strand wholesale winds of 175 kilometers per hour near center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.

Cruz said Ramil was forecast to remain almost stationary over the Pacific Ocean in the next few days.

He said the typhoon is expected to move northward slowly within the next 24 hours then it would shift direction to west northwest or west toward extreme northern Luzon.

Ramil is predicted to be at 1,200 km east of Aparri this afternoon; at 830 km northeast of Aparri or at 980 km east of Basco, Batanes tomorrow afternoon.

Custodio likewise stressed that the complaint against Estrada is different from the complaint filed by the Dacer siblings against Sen. Panfilo Lacson, which was already investigated by the DOJ.

He reiterated that their decision to file the wholesale pearl complaint against Estrada was not based on the earlier revelation of Lacson implicating Estrada in the double murder case — but solely on the testimony of Mancao during hearing in Manila court.

Mancao earlier testified at the Manila court that Lacson sought the liquidation of Dacer after the latter threatened to expose Estrada’s involvement in insider trading in the stock market.

He reportedly accused Lacson, a former Philippine National Police chief, of giving the order “to get rid” of Dacer and that he was “directly getting orders from Malacañang.”

He also testified that Dacer was “Operation pearl wholesale Delta” and that the man codenamed “bigote” (moustache) mentioned in his affidavit was Estrada.

The DOJ only reopened the double murder case after Mancao implicated Lacson in the killings.

In his affidavit signed last Feb. 14 in Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Mancao said he was present when Lacson allegedly gave the akoya pearl “hit” order to then police official Aquino.

Aquino replied: “U-unahin na muna freshwater pearl jewelry namin si Bero (former police intelligence chief Reynaldo Berroya) malapit na kami sa kanya (we will hit Berroya first, we are already close).”

Lacson, according to Mancao, replied: “Pagsabayin na ninyo sila (hit them both simultaneously).”

Lacson headed the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force while concurrently chief of PNP. Aquino, on the other hand, was freshwater pearl strands operations chief of the PAOCTF while Mancao served as chief of Task Force Luzon of the PAOCTF
